------------------------------------------

New York City. You moved here before the war began to have a business. You loved working in a tailor shop. You loved giving clothing life, vibrant colors and patterns, the types of material, you were tired of bland clothing and so when you found friendship with one Hercules Mulligan it was easy to join him in the business trade. It was lots of fun, most who came into the shop were actors and wives of people with money and political gain, but when the war began, soldiers began to be your most regularly seen customers. Just for fix-ups and adjustments, no more fun textiles. No more fun colors and patterns. The life that was once in your shop was gone.

It was scary at first, uncomfortable even, you were worried what they would say or try to conversate with you. But what else was there to do? You needed the money, if they asked you never said your last name was Washington, you would say Mulligan, a distant cousin of Hercules. It was better that way with how famous your father had become and with the fact you were in the middle of a city filled with red coat soldiers.

At least Mulligan was still around to be a reliable friend. You lived upstairs in the shop, he would often stay in the other room, not often though, he was always out and about in town, you much preferred to read a book or work on dresses and suits it seemed no-one would buy now that there was no real reason too. You still did it though, and you would put the ensembles in the window for passersby to see. One gentlemen walking by did see, and came into the store. "Good Morning."

"Good mornin' Sir." you finish up the details before stepping away from the display. "How may I help you today, Sir?"

"I couldn't help but notice the colors and vibrancy of the suit and pairing dress."

"Yes, I work with such designs, well, I um, I did." you look and see the epaulette on his shoulder. "Major."

"You did?" he walks to the standing point were he shows you were he needs retouching on his sleave, needs new stitches. "No one buys cloths like this anymore, no more shows. My clients were more commonly actors and women joining fancy dinner parties." you start fixing up his sleave. "I suppose I will have to host a dinner party, and perhaps have a show here in New York, for the soldiers yes, but also the people of New York." you smile to yourself at the thought. "That would be splendid. Hopefully you will inform them I have some wonderful options for wear."

"I will make sure of it. Might I enquire as to your name Miss?"

"Mulligan." you finish his sleave. "Mr. Mulligan owns this place is he your husband?"

"Oh no, Mr. Mulligan is family, cousin, and we both own this place. Equally."

"My greatest apologies for assuming." He smiles and looks at his sleave. "Well done, and fast too." he hands you coin and you take some and hand him the rest. "Consider it a discount, so long as you really bring customers to my door with your party, Major?" he smiles. "Major John Andre, at your service." he bows and kisses your hand. A gentlemen. "I will see you again Miss Mulligan." and the man was out the door. You blush a bit holding the hand he kissed to your chest. He was quite handsome, and nice. He didn't seem to be like most who came into the shop nor like anyone you have met outside the shop. You had to admit, he caught your eye, too bad he was in red and not blue.

Two days went by and you figured he forgot about you and you teasing, but when a number of women and men entered the shop doors you knew that Major Andre kept his word. Hercules was pleased with business and you even more so, it was like how it used to be.
