Jimmy and I ducked as we saw him exit his house. "I need you to stay here," I instructed as I unbuckle my seat belt.
"What the hell are you going to do?" He whispered fiercely, "what if he comes back?"
I shrugged. "Distract him," I replied, "pretend you're Jehovah Witness and you're here to show him the light."
Jimmy scoffed, "I think the light for him is unobtainable at this point."
Ignoring him, I walked out of the car and ran towards the house. Knowing fully well someone who is keeping somebody captive isn't going to leave their door unlocked, I walk around the back. Discouraged that no windows were open, I work up the strength to grab a rock. So what if the neighbors hear and call the cops? At least they'd find Hailey in here with me.
I begin swinging the rock repeatedly against the durable window as it makes a deafening sound. Eventually the glass starts splintering and with one final hit, I watch the glass rain to the ground.
"Hailey?" I call out into the silence as I begin my search, preparing myself for the worst.
