"Oh, I am sure you won't be there forever..."
The words sparked a memory. Somebody had just said that exact quote to me today. I clicked on Christopher's profile, curious of who I was chatting with. I knew I hadn't paid much attention to when Sasha initially showed me the stranger.
Upon viewing his photos, I let out a gasp. My stomach instantly dropped and fear overwhelmed me. My heart beat quickened as my sweaty hands hovered over the keyboard, unsure how to respond.
"Sasha!" I called from my room. My best friend immediately rushed in, concern etched across her face. "What's wrong, Hailey?" Her voice was breathless. Immediately she noticed the fear in my eyes and I swallowed the bile rising in my throat before explaining.
"That old guy who messaged me a week ago," I said, turning the screen towards her in order to jog her memory. "He came to my work the today."
Sasha's eyes widened as she whispered, "oh my god. What if he's, like, stalking you or something?" I felt my heart beat quicken even more at the thought and tried coming up with an alternative explanation. Maybe it was just a coincidence. A very weird coincidence.
"Let me talk to him," she demanded. I was hesitant to hand over my laptop. Despite that horrid gut feeling, Christopher seemed like a very honest man.
With shaky hands I passed Sasha the computer.
