Kaz

"Kaz, I've changed my mind. I don't want you on the front line. I want you to evacuate with Aki and the other civilians," Sora says. Ted and Aki have left. I look at her with an expression of confusion.

"What? You just had the same conversation with Aki, and you refused to leave yourself. What makes you think you can tell me otherwise?" I question.

"No arguments. You're leaving with Aki tonight!" she says. I glance at Kei in the hope of him backing me up, but he doesn't say anything and looks away.

"The hell I am." I cross my arms and slouch.

"I've lost too many people. I lost my parents and Matsu. I can't lose you too," Sora says.

"I'm not your parents. I'm not Matsu. I'm not them," I reply.

"You're going – end of it," she says sternly. She gets up from the table and leaves.

"Are you just going to sit there and do nothing?" I say. Izumi squeezes Kei's shoulder and leaves with Sora.

"She's right. You're too young to be fighting in a war," Kei replies.

"Stop pretending you care! You never cared! Not even when Mum and Dad were alive! You always hated me!" I yell. Some people glance at us from the other tables.

"That's not true!" Kei argues.

"It is," I argue.

"Look, I know I've been a Jerk, but I'm trying to change. You're my little brother, and you're my responsibility, now. We're trying to protect you. Sora and me. Please just do this for me, and I'll find you when this is over. I promise," Kei says. He gets up from the table and does something he has never done before. He hugs me. He throws his strong arms around me and holds me in a deep embrace.

"I love you, Kaz," he says.

"I love you too," I reply and hug him back.
