I call in sick for work, which I never do, so it shouldn't raise any red flags. I need to read all these letters in detail. I text Rory from my bedroom and tell him that I'm sick and staying home today. Telling him not to come into my room just in case he catches my fake sickness. I wait until Rory leaves, then spread the letters on my bed. They must have some clues on where to get more information. The only grim issue is there may not be anyone alive to talk to, well, obviously, besides my mom. If she has been lying to us, then she won't admit it. Maybe I can get her drunk and get her talking about past lovers. It can be a fake bonding night where I'd corner her into telling me the truth. With Cian involved, something is going on that I don't understand. Also where is Cian and why haven't I seen him? Did he leave? Did he finally leave me alone?
Being homesick when not really sick on a Monday is nice. Shit, I should do this more often. I have so many sick days that go to waste. I'm sitting crisscross on my bed in my undies with a cup of coffee and pick up another letter to read. There are only ten or so more not counting the ones I've already read. In the first one I picked up, there is a very descriptive sex scene they shared, and so I skimmed that. Then, setting that aside, I pick up the next. In this one, Terri describes the café they will share in Paris and what kind of treats they will sell—romanticizing their elegant flat around the block from their bakery. Damn, I'm not sure there will be any information or leads from these. The next one is Terri describing the war and the ongoing struggle between them and the O'Connors.
"Happy news finally, my brother's wife Cherri has given birth to a baby girl. No one can know of her existence. I'm doing everything I can to keep them safe, but need to tell you just in case. Someone else needs to know she is alive."
Here it is, I think, scanning a letter halfway through, "If it weren't for my friend Seth Moore, I wouldn't have known the O'Connors got a tip we were hiding something at our main residence. We got out just in time before dozens of men stormed in and started a gun shootout. We all escaped to our safe house on the coast of Donegal."
I quickly Google Seth Moore, and many articles come up about him. I read through a few things and discovered he has an ex-wife named Lucy Moore from North America. I'm going to go for her. With any luck, I could corner her, and she would be less dangerous. Hopefully, you never know.
I look up everything on Lucy Moore while eating breakfast, and find her address via Ireland's county parcel search. Getting ready as quickly as I can muster and start to drive there. As I round the fifth corner, I notice a car following me for a while. I step on the gas.
I make a sharp left, and the car follows. Okay, now I am sure I need to lose these fuckers. I slam on my gas, and my vehicle charges forward. I hit a green light, and then fuck no, no hold for me, and I floor it. I zoom through the yellow light in time, and the car following me tries to follow and is t-boned by an oncoming vehicle. Holy shit, I say out loud, I hope that person is okay even though they were following me.
I continue on my way with speed and efficiency. Before I know it, I arrive at Lucy's house. I pull up and leave my car, noticing a light inside her home. It is early enough to catch her before work, and I know it is incredibly rude of me to drop by so early. However, I have a feeling that I need to speak with her quickly before I can't.
I think it was clever of me to go to the ex-wife if she happens to know anything. I suck up the courage to knock on the door. A beautiful, light brown-haired woman opens the door. She has delicate features with a round face and thick, gorgeous eyebrows. "Can I help you?" She says, clearly confused.
"Yes, I think you can. I think you may have known the people in this letter I found at my adoptive parent's house. I am so sorry to bother you, but I am just looking for answers."
