After meeting my dad, the natural progression was for me to meet Jack's parents as well. Well, natural progression, nothing had really been a natural progression recently. And this trip they were taking to visit Jack had been planned for longer than we had been married. At least they did know about our story by now, so it wasn't going to come as a big surprise.

I was nervously waiting in Jack's apartment for them to arrive. Jack himself had gone to the airport to pick them up, but I had been at the studio a little too late and couldn't make it in time to come with him. Which meant I went straight to his empty apartment after I finished off my work.

I had no clue what I was supposed to do. Every place I sat down at felt like it was the wrong area to be found in. And there wasn't anything for me to do to pass the time. Jack had already cleaned his entire apartment, so there was nothing to do on that side of things. And well, I didn't live there yet. A lot of my stuff was here, I had my own space in the closet, but it still felt weird being there alone.

Especially with Jack's parents entering at any moment.

I did not expect the door to unlock while I was in the kitchen having a snack, though. I had just been standing, leaning against the counter, with my elbows on it as I scrolled through my phone when I heard the lock turn and people talking on the other side.

I quickly put the food away and wiped my mouth while the door opened. Jack was laughing at something his parents had said while I shuffled out of the kitchen and approached the front door to greet them.

I felt so awkward. I really didn't know how to handle this. I'd only ever met the parents of one boyfriend before, and that was the guy I had dated briefly in high school. This felt so much more serious, though. I mean, it was. Jack's parents were my actual mother- and father-in-law. This was serious.

I stood there waiting with a big grin as they entered. When their eyes finally fell on me I gave a little wave with a small 'hi'. I was both so excited and so afraid.

"Mom, dad, this is Jacie," Jack said, introducing me as they walked inside and closed the front door behind themselves.

Just like May had done when we first met, his mom enveloped me in a warm hug. "It's so nice to finally meet you!"

After she released me, Jack's dad extended a hand for me to shake. "We've heard so much about you."

My nerves started to melt away. They were both so friendly already, there was no need for any worries.

However, since it was already late when they arrived, we decided to leave the proper introduction for the next day so that they could rest. We helped them bring their luggage to the guest room and I made sure they had everything they needed. Within half an hour, they had already gone to bed.

Jack and I stayed up for a bit longer, but ended up going to bed relatively early for our doing as well. We knew his parents would be up early and wanted to make sure the first day went well. Once we got into bed, it almost felt like I was at home.

"Do you think they'll like me?" I asked after the lights had been turned off and silence had consumed us for a few minutes.

Jack turned around to face me and slipped his hand over my stomach. "I think they already do."

"I hope so," I whispered back.

"If your dad can accept me," he got closer and pressed a kiss against my cheek, his breath tickling my skin, "then my parents will love you."

We fell asleep in that position, waiting for the next morning to come. I ended up waking up at around seven am. Jack was still sleeping next to me, but I was determined to make a good impression and show his parents' some good old Evans hospitality.
