The studio was once again buzzing with electrifying energy. I'd been working with Liam, Olivia, Max, and Joe for quite a while now. We worked really well together. Despite the fact that their music was heavier than anything I'd ever worked with before, they were extremely receptive to everything I said. And their ideas were great to work with.
We'd become pretty great friends in the process as well. Liam still had the reputation of being a flirt, hitting me with compliments during every session. But I continued to brush them off. It wasn't that he wasn't attractive. I could admit that he was. But I had Jack and didn't want anybody else.
During one particular session, it was just me and Liam trying to lay down some vocals. Everything had been set up. I was at the soundboard while he had a microphone in one hand and his phone with the lyrics in the other.
"Ready, Liam?" I asked as I glanced at him from the recording equipment.
He flashed a bewitching smile and winked. "Always ready for you, Jacie."
I rolled my eyes and started playing the backing track. His voice filled the studio while the rest of the music came through the two headsets we were wearing. He had such a powerful voice that fit so well with the kind of music they made. He'd really found his place in the world.
Once we finished with the take, he looked up at me. "What did you think? Charming enough?"
"You're sounding great," I complimented, making sure I saved the track since I did still want to take a few more.
"You just bring out the best in me."
I laughed softly, deflecting his not-so-subtle flirting again. "Flattery won't get you an autograph, you know."
"You can't blame a guy for trying." He held up his hands in defence.
"Alright, we've got work to do here, get your head back in the game."
He chuckled, brushing a strand of dark hair away from his face. "You're right, you're right. I promise to be on my best behaviour... for now."
A few more takes later, and we were finished with the song and both needed a break. We put down our work, deciding to continue the next day. As I left the studio and entered the reception area, I found Justin behind the large computer screen and Jack sitting in a swivel chair across from him, turning his body to the left and the right over and over.
"You're here early," I remarked with a grin, always happy to see him.
Jack stopped his movements, his eyes lighting up. "I was bored at home. I've just been discussing some ideas with Justin."
Liam was only a few seconds behind me. His eyes also immediately fell on Jack. He froze on the spot for a second, taking in Jack's appearance.
"Ah, shit, I think your husband might be hotter than you," he commented as he approached us, holding out a hand for Jack to shake. "Dear Maria, right?"
"Yep..." Jack nodded back slowly, taking his turn to look Liam up and down.
"Nice. A real banger." Liam continued walking towards the mini fridge and got himself a drink. He decided to throw in a playful remark. "You know, you're a lucky man. Jacie's a real talent."
Jack chuckled, unfazed by Liam's flirtatious tone. "I know I am. She helped us write our last record."
"So you are into studio romances!" Liam shook his head at me, taking the cap off the bottle and taking a large sip.
"Do I need to call your mom?" I threatened with an inside joke I had with the band. Everytime Liam went too far, we'd warn him with the mention of calling his mom.
