"Don't Want To Be A God Pt. 2"
I feared for their reactions. I took the gift gratefully. I ignored how the gift seemed to make my body tingle. Like it was supposed to be a part of me. I was extremely glad it didn't glow as I broke this news to them, "I will always help you, but I can't be Hermes. I can't be a god alongside you. I don't want that..."
Jungkook hyung, or I should say Poseidon, offered a simple smile as he walked me out of the pantheon hall. The hall of the gods. "모든 것을 겪고도 여전히 독자 분은 소속감이 없다고 느끼시죠? 저희가 독자 분의 시간을 너무 많이 요구할까 봐 걱정이 되시나요?" (After everything you still don't feel like you belong, do you ? Are you worried that we'll demand too much of your time ?) I sighed. My mind was racing, even in this moment. I imagine most people would be thrilled to be a god & have all the power in their hands...
I honestly just was worried things would be like last time. Yujin hyung has now gone into hiding once more. Would he ever trust me again if he found out I essentially took in the job of a god ? So I answered with hesitation carefully, "I won't abandon my job, hyung. I know I am meant to be your messenger. Even if I refuse the job..."
Jungkook hyung, well Poseidon, sighed as he stopped me at the elevator once more. "You miss your family, right ? That's why you feel unfit." I nodded. My recent memories were from waking up out of my cryogenic chamber & seeing my family. I hated leaving them once more, but I feared what would happen if I ditched S.Y.N.D.I.C.A.T.E altogether. Would all of my family become targets like Yujin hyung ? "여러분 모두 가족을 그리워하지 않나요? 여러분은 그들을 기억할 수 있나요?" (Do you all not miss your families ? Can you even remember them ?)
I could tell I struck a nerve as I was shoved into the elevator when it opened. Before it closed all I got was this, "Have a nice time in Ophelia City, Jerk." Dr. Lee greeted me as the elevator was connected to the lab. "Had your fun, yes ?" All I could do was nod before she gestured me out. I assume she was working on something classified.
I decided to go for a walk in the city. The city was far more advanced than I remembered. No different from the cities outside the dome either. I stopped when I spotted what looked like a temple. It was grand & very clean, but the look of it stated that this had always been here. It looked ancient with modern parts to it.
I slowly walked in only to find modern monuments inside of the gods. This is when I met... her. Lady Nam, the priestess of the gods. She basically acted as a fortune teller. Did the Ahjussi hire her to swindle money out of Ophelia City' residents ? Or was this something she did of her own accord ? Was this all she was ? "What brings you by, Lord Hermes ?", her voice was sweet yet annoyed somewhat. Like it meant to put a spell on you.
I frowned as I answered her. "Don't. Don't call me that. My name is Jangjun." She looked amused before she gestured to the empty space where I assume my monument was supposed to go. "Couldn't handle being a god ? You currently have no missions or chores. You'd only be asked to act your part."
"Is that it ? You think insulting me will get me to talk ?", I said as she laughed as we stood in the temple of the Olympians. "I think you are emotional. Something the Olympians purposefully ignore. Emotions can lead to rash decisions..."
I didn't get to push her further before the Ahjussi stood before us. "Walk with me, Jangjun ya. We have much to discuss..."
