Bailey's Pov
Brooklyn, New YorkFlashback⏮️
"You fucking fag dress like a damn girl bitch!" I heard from around the corner of the school halls. I turned the corner and saw Conner, Aiden, and Mason the 'Popular kids' towering over Jennifer a tomboyish girl who dressed like a boy.
It wasn't an unusual moment since many kids bullied her for being a tomboy, everyone except me. My mom told me that even if someone isn't the stereotypical girl or boy you should treat them the way you'd wanna be treated, and I stood by that.
"Hey! Back off of her!" I squealed in my young squeaky voice. The three boys turned in my direction with annoyance written all across their faces.
"What do YOU want Bailey?" Conner spat emphasizing the 'you' "I want you to leave Jennifer alone." I spat back. He scoffed and walked up to push me to the ground. "Stay in your place you dirty bitch!" He sneered grabbing my hair and pulling it roughly.
In defense I kicked his leg roughly causing him to collapse onto the floor with a thud, I stood up to my feet and ran over to Jennifer helping her up as we both ran through the halls and towards the girl's bathroom.
Once we were inside I looked at Jennifer with a smile. "U-Um thank you for standing up for me." She smiled shyly playing with her braids. "Of course, no one should have to go through that, especially because of the way they dress," I said hugging her.
After that day me and Jennifer spent every day together, until one day in High School.
Present time⏭️
I fell to the ground with a loud thud, "What the fuck Kyle!?" I shouted as he, Tata, Dee, Jerry, and Jennifer walked past me. I stood up gathering my stuff from off the floor, as I picked them up a dark hand picked up my phone and handed it to me.
I looked up to see who the hand belonged to, and of course, it was no other than Jennifer "Oh. Thanks, I guess..." I mumbled taking my phone from her. "Bailey I just wanted to apologize for them, they having a bad day for no reason." She tried to explain.
I nodded my head. "Yeah sure they are," I replied dryly before walking away from her and headed to my next class.
Lunch⏭️
I walked through the halls towards the lunch room. I was starving and couldn't wait to sink my teeth into something. For some odd reason, the doors to the cafeteria were closed which was a never since fights were also happening so the guards needed the doors to be open to get to the fighting students quicker.
I opened to door slowly and as soon as I walked in nearly the whole school stared back at me with their phones. As I began to form words to say a cold liquid came crashing down onto me and the sound of a metal bucket clanking onto the floor.
The entire lunchroom erupted into laughter as milk covered my body from head to toe. I looked towards the crowd slowly and saw Kr and his gang of goons laughing, I stormed out of the lunch room tears flooding down my face as I ran away in embarrassment. I ran into the bathroom and crouched down on the bathroom floor.
I felt hurt, embarrassed, and most importantly betrayed not by the school, but by Jen while scanning the cafeteria I saw her laughing at me. Laughing at me getting bullied by her friends the same friends who never helped her when she was getting bullied or even cared when she was transitioning.
But me someone who was there since day one is milked as her sign of appreciation. The bathroom door opened and of course it was Jennifer walking into the bathroom. "Bailey. I'm so sorry-" she started.
"Don't even apologize. I saw you laughing, you obviously think it's a joke the one person who stood beside you, you repay them by bullying them until they feel like absolute shit! Until they feel like their life is useless and want it end it all!" I ranted as angry tears ran down my face.
As I continued crying I felt two warm pair of arms surrounding my body, "I know you don't even want to hear this, but I'm sorry I didn't even know you were going through all that. I should've been a better friend, all the popularity just got to my head and I forgot about the person who liked me when nobody did." She said sitting beside me.
"Not liked. Loved the only person who really loved you when nobody didn't." I corrected her.
