Longing

Disordered. That’s how Sunghoon’s world felt at the moment, as he sat patiently in an office too filled with stuff for him to pick anything apart specifically. Heeseung had guided him there after they’d arrived and had told him to wait for a minute while pulling out the chair for him to sit. The room looked in serious need of some tidying up; it wasn’t dirty, just really messy. Sunghoon wasn’t sure what he was allowed to touch or look at, so he stared ahead and tried to avoid looking at anything.

It may have been his nerves, but it felt like a long time had passed and Heeseung hadn’t yet returned. Sunghoon started bouncing his leg anxiously as he waited; he wished he had a watch on him to at least assure himself that not that much time had passed. Heeseung had told him to wait there, so there was literally nothing else he could do. Even if he wanted to, if he left the room, he didn’t know how big the palace was or where anything was. He’d be lost mentally and physically.

Thankfully, he kept getting distracted. God, he wanted to put the books away, at least. There were so many papers and books lying around, Sunghoon was itching to pick them up. As a bare minimum, he wanted to place them in piles on the desk instead of them being scattered all over the room. It’d be a stupid thing to do, though, touching the king’s stuff without permission. He was sure Heeseung was already furious with him, he was not going to fuel his anger any more.

Eventually, finally, Heeseung came back. He was followed by two rather tall omegas, Sunghoon couldn’t help but note that they were also very pretty. He wondered if they were Heeseung’s concubines. If they were, Sunghoon was surprised Heeseung had the indecency to introduce them to him, but it wouldn’t be that off-brand for an alpha. He was pretty sure his mother knew all about his father’s concubines.

“So… uh… these are Beomgyu and Euijoo, they’ll be your companions,” Heeseung awkwardly introduced them. The two omegas bowed to Sunghoon but were evidently snickering at Heeseung.

“Oh…” Sunghoon couldn’t even properly introduce himself, given that he’d been taken aback that they weren’t what he thought.

“I know you only had one back at— but I thought since… since you are new here, you could use some extra help,” Heeseung explained. “Anyway, they’ll show you around and tell you where everything is,” he continued, the omegas looking absolutely amused by it all. “I need to tend to some… stuff,” he finished, before stiffly walking out of the room.

One of the omegas, the one Sunghoon thought was called Beomgyu, lost it as soon as the door closed, laughing so hard he bent forward and almost lost his balance. The other one, Euijoo Sunghoon reminded himself, began laughing but covered it up with a cough and a deep sigh. Eventually, he hit Beomgyu so he’d calm down. Sunghoon felt like he needed to tell them that he wouldn’t snitch on them to Heeseung, he’d never put someone’s life on the line. Especially not for something as laughing.

“I-I’m Sunghoon,” he tried to begin a conversation, but he didn’t have much practice. “It’s- It’s nice to meet you,” he made his voice quieter with every syllable. He was not doing great at establishing a friendship here.

“Heeseung said you were quite polite,” Beomgyu commented once he managed to breathe again, thought his speech was cut by small laughs. “Don’t worry, we don’t bite,” he tried to get Sunghoon to relax.

“You don’t?” Euijoo raised an eyebrow at Beomgyu and that got a laugh out of Sunghoon.

“Well, I won’t bite him, that’s not my job,” Beomgyu defended himself.

“Anyhow, would you like to see your room first or meet some of the staff?” Euijoo ignored Beomgyu in favour of moving the conversation forward.

“I don’t know?” Sunghoon opted to answer in a safe manner.
