It didn’t take long for Sunghoon to suspect something was up. Out of habit, he immediately assumed something bad was going to happen, but he told himself off for it. Heeseung had proven time and time again that he could be trusted, so he was going to give him the benefit of the doubt. And he was glad he did, Heeseung was just being stupidly endearing, again.
It took Sunghoon a couple of days to finally figure it out, but Heeseung was courting him. He almost laughed when he realised, because it seemed so useless and redundant. They were married already, Sunghoon was halfway into liking Heeseung way more than he had expected, there really was no point. But Heeseung seemed so determined to court him that Sunghoon couldn’t bring himself to tell him to stop. He even kind of liked the attention, actually. It felt nice, like he was appreciated for being there even if he wasn’t doing much. He felt valued.
Really, it was cute. Especially if he started comparing Heeseung’s current efforts to the ones before this new arrangement of theirs. He already got Sunghoon everything he asked for, and even stuff he just kind of mentioned, so it was almost funny seeing Heeseung trying to come up with gift ideas. The contrast made it clear that he had just been trying to be nice at the beginning, with the gifts now being way more specific. He’d gotten tailored gowns with the softest of fabrics and most stunning colours. Sweet treats and appetisers with designs so pretty Sunghoon had felt bad eating them, but their beauty was only rivalled by how great they tasted. A handwritten poem or two that had caused Sunghoon to blush and hide under his covers. Sunoo had laughed for five solid minutes after the first time it had happened.
Sunghoon truly appreciated the efforts, he really did, but the longer it went on for, the more annoyed he became. It was cute and nice at first, but it had been going on for so long Sunghoon started thinking this was Heeseung’s way of postponing their mating. There was no indicator that was the case, but Sunghoon couldn’t come up with any other reason why his husband would attempt to court him for longer than a month.
With this, they were closing in to three months since they had the conversation where, Sunghoon had thought, Heeseung had finally understood that they had to mate. Or at the very least, Heeseung had to claim him. In all honesty, Sunghoon hadn’t brought up the topic again since then either. But he thought he’d done enough; he’d been clear enough and Heeseung was aware of how he felt. He also had to admit he got a little dumb around Heeseung and all intention to mention claiming vanished from his mind. Heeseung was just very distracting, he could not be blamed for that.
Things had gotten drastically worse, for him, after he started having recurring dreams. Usually, he wasn’t the kind to remember his dreams, but Heeseung seemed to be the exception. Maybe it was the fact that he always woke up frustrated and horny that had caused his memory to suddenly work, or it could have been that he couldn’t help but wish the dreams were true. Either way, he needed to do something, and it was more than evident by the way he kept getting shy and blushing when spending time with Heeseung that he couldn’t do it alone.
“You’ve come to be a great friend and all, but I really don’t want to hear about your sexual fantasies with my brother,” Yeonjun had said when Sunghoon brought up the subject matter. He felt like dying.
“Not about that!” Sunghoon complained. “I need help,” he started, Yeonjun looked at him suspiciously but let him continue. “How do I tell him to stop with the courting thing? Without offending him, obviously.”
“Have you tried… telling him just that?” Yeonjun offered and Sunghoon almost hit him. “He’s not going to be offended, I swear!”
“But he’s going to think I don’t want him!” Sunghoon didn’t know why they were half shouting, but he couldn’t stop. Somehow, it was less embarrassing like that.
