Heat?

Nine. Sunghoon saw Heeseung a total of nine times in a month, and six of those were while dinning. Only the other three times found Sunghoon alone with Heeseung, since Yeonjun was always there when they ate. It was bizarre, Sunghoon thought, that he only saw his husband for some meals and almost never outside of those times.

One of those meetings hadn’t even been long, he’d been having one of his lessons with Taehyun when Heeseung had come into the library. He stayed for five minutes asking about how the lessons was going and if Sunghoon was comfortable, then got the book he wanted and left.

The other two were sweeter, to the demise of Sunghoon’s poor heart. Heeseung had taken time to show him around the gardens of the palace and some of the more unused rooms. He’d been awfully nice and attentive, easing Sunghoon into conversation while remaining completely friendly. Nothing in his demeanour pointed at him having other intentions. In one of the visits to the garden, Sunghoon had been introduced to the people taking care of it and Heeseung had made sure he’d gotten a bunch of the flowers he’d liked to take into his room.

At first, he’d been terrified and anxious all the time, but after a while he realised Heeseung really had no intention of claiming him. At least not until it was absolutely necessary, which would eventually happen. It eased Sunghoon’s nerves a bit knowing he wouldn’t be attacked out of nowhere, and he’d probably see it coming way before Heeseung even thought about it. As things were, Sunghoon even believed he may have to initiate things, which was simply unimaginable.

Once that layer of uneasiness dissipated, Sunghoon was able to much easily talk to people. Especially Yeonjun, whom he shared almost every meal with. Occasionally they’d be accompanied by Soobin, Yeonjun’s companion, Wooyoung, or Sunghoon’s companions, just so they weren’t so lonely; but it was just them more often than not. They were all really nice and Sunghoon felt like he could trust them, be safe around them.

Heeseung was mostly absent, but he did attempt to initiate some sort of conversation whenever he was present. He’d ask about how Sunghoon was doing, if he was comfortable and the likes. Much against Sunghoon’s initial judgement, it felt nice. Actually, it felt more than nice, it almost seemed like Heeseung cared about him beyond just eventually being the one bearing his children. At the same time, he was infuriated. Heeseung was doing everything to stay as far away from him as possible while also being kind and considerate. Which maybe shouldn’t make Sunghoon’s heart flutter, but he was not prepared for that kind of treatment.

Had it only been for the short conversation, which Heeseung made sure were focused on Sunghoon, maybe he wouldn’t be this captivated. As it turned out, Heeseung was also the one fulfilling each and every request Sunghoon had, plus an extra. Be it specific foods he just kind of mentioned or stuff he wanted, Sunghoon always got it and he knew it was Heeseung’s doing even if he never mentioned it. He knew because Yeonjun told him about it, it had been a comment in passing but Sunghoon had almost tripped because of it.

He was more cautious with his words after knowing Heeseung was just granting him everything he wanted. When he had learnt about Yeonjun and Soobin, and the fact that Heeseung was aware of the relationship, he had already shifted his initial assumptions on Heeseung’s personality. This, however, put him in a whole new light.

He’d learnt a lot from his tutors too, cementing the fact that this was more of a Heeseung thing than a tradition. Taehyung had basically covered all of the kingdom’s history, though Sunghoon didn’t remember most of it, and had started with the customs and traditions with a focus on the royal roles. Nothing of what Heeseung was doing was part of any of those things. He was also learning etiquette and more specifically what his role was from Miyeon, an omega who was hired to tutor him in that.  She was nice, and explained that her job was more of a formality than him having to actually learn anything. Sunghoon appreciated the honesty.
