The Village of the Demon Slayers

'The village of the demon slayers?' I thought since we had tracked down a lead only to find that the fragment we were looking for had been taken by a demon hunter.

"Somewhere in the mountains not exactly the best lead" Kagome said as we were walking through the forest in order to find the village of the demon slayers.

"Above" I said suddenly causing the others to stop

"There's several approaching" Kagome said

"Demons" I said with narrowed eyes

"They must be heading towards the village we must hurry" I said running off.

"Ryu" Kagome yelled out

"Don't just go running off on your own ya idiot" Inuyasha yelled out as they all followed me.

Yet as we arrived at the charred remains of a village all we found were the remnants of a massacre.

"This is awful" Kagome said looking around

"Tsuchi" I whispered as several empty pits appeared in front of me as I stood to the side of the village "we should give these people a proper burial" I said and the others agreed.

Soon Miroku and Inuyasha were gathering the bodies as I was creating the graves for them.

Then through the use of the power granted to me by my sword and the help of the others we finished rather quickly as Kagome and Miroku prayed for the souls of the dead. I too prayed in my own way as I buried each one.

Yet I had failed to notice that Myoga the flea demon had arrived as well along with a cat like demon that could change its size. Myoga then lead us to a limestone cave that when the villagers had finished making weapons and armor from the carcasses of the demons they slayed they threw the unused parts in the cave as it is rumored that a great beast dwells deep within.

"Let's check it out" I said walking towards the cave

"Are you insane?" Kagome shouted

"I'm with her on this one" Inuyasha said but when he got too close he was repelled by an invisible barrier

"A barrier?" Kagome said in surprise yet when I walked up to it I passed through with ease

"I'm going to go ahead." I said continuing on

"But Ryu?" Kagome said but I didn't hear her.

As I wondered deeper in to the cave I came across a strange statue that appeared to be a young woman trapped in the clutches of a large grotesque demon's jaws. Yet what was odd about it was that in her chest there was a small hole where her heart should have been.

"Are you the one that created the sacred jewel?" I thought aloud as I moved closer my sword pulsed and an image of a woman in armor appeared

'I knew you'd find you way here great maiden.' The woman said and I looked at her confused 'I am Priestess Midoriko and while my spirit is sealed in the sacred jewel I left a memory here so I might properly great you when you arrived. The blade you carry as you may know is no ordinary blade. In fact it...'

What she told me next surprised me and when the memory faded I knew what I had to do. I needed to leave my friends and start on a journey of my own.

Leaving the cave I went back to the village and found Miroku and Inuyasha sitting around a fire discussing a few things but they fell silent when they noticed me

"And just where the hell have you been?" Inuyasha said yet with my bangs hiding my eyes I sighed

"Where's Kagome?" I asked and he looked even more annoyed

"She's in the house over there taking care of the last demon hunter of this village named Sango." Shippo answered and I nodded making my way over to the house he pointed to.

"Kagome" I said walking in and she looked surprised

"Ryu ! You're ok!" she said hugging me and I smiled slightly

"Kagome." I said calmly and she slowly released me to look at me surprised

"What is it Ryu what's wrong?" she asked

"I'm going away for a while." I said and she looked confused

"You mean you're going to the future for a while, I'll go with you." She said and I shook my head

"No there are things here in the past I need to do on my own." I said calmly and she looked surprised

"You mean you're going to go out on your own but..." she started

"I know it's dangerous but it's something I need to do." I said looking her in the eyes and she looked down before nodding

"Alright as long as you're sure." She said hugging me "just promise you'll be safe"

"I promise. We'll meet up again after all if I come across a jewel shard on my travels I'll be sure to collect it so when we meet again I can give it to you." I said smiling and she smiled back

"Have you told the others yet?" she asked and I shook my head no.

"I'm about to though." I said with a small smile. "After I tell them though I'm going to head out."

"So soon?" Kagome asked and I nodded before she sighed "alright I'll see you around ok." She said and this time I hugged her before I left the house

"Are you ok?" Miroku asked as I sat next to him and hugged him

"I'm leaving for a while" I said simply and he tensed slightly and put an arm around me protectively

"Can I ask why?" he asked

"There are some things I need to do on my own for a while but I'll be sure to meet you all again." I said and he nodded

"Just be safe ok" he said and I smiled

"Of course" I said happily

"What's this I hear about you leaving?!" Inuyasha said annoyed as he walked up

"I need to do some things on my own for a while." I said calmly as I stood up and he scowled

"So you're just going to leave us is that it?!" he yelled

"I trust you enough to protect my oldest friend as well as my ancestral father Inuyasha. But remember this isn't good bye I will see you all again I promise I won't die on my travels." I said smiling slightly and he scowled "come now you keep acting like this and I'd think you've started going soft."

"Why you!" Inuyasha growled but then he crossed his arms and turned away "just keep your promise otherwise I won't hear the end of it." He said walking away and I smiled

"I will miss you too my friend." I said smiling.

Soon after making my good byes to Shippo I began on my own journey in to the feudal lands of Japan.
