Traveling on my own may have seemed like a reckless plan to begin with and with all the demons that attack I would only reinforce this idea. However I wouldn't have it any other way because my friends have enough already on their plates as they search for the shards of the shikon jewel.
As I travel it would appear that all demons are slowly beginning to sense the growing power both in my sword and in myself. With the words that The Priestess Midoriko told me it still seemed to ring true. demons will seek out my power and will try to corrupt me while I'm still mastering my new found abilities or they may wish to take my sword and devour my flesh to gain what strength I have already gained.
What's more I've also been informed that when I master my swords power I will then be granted the powers of a celestial being and thus becoming one.
But in order to do so I must pass a test set forth by the existing celestial beings but said test will not be reviled to me until I have mastered my power. And should I fail said test I will become a demon.
Wonderful right?
Anyways right now I was passing through a village that had been destroyed already as several corpse littered the ground some young some old. None were spared from the brutality of whatever man or monster passed through.
"..." looking around I couldn't help but stay on high alert for while I did not sense anything around that's not to say that something might not be lurking in the shadows or planning to return soon.
It was eerie just how quite it was but depending on the faint redness of the blood I'd say the killings had taken place only a few hours ago. If not earlier that morning.
Suddenly I sensed a dark aura approaching and soon a man in dark armor appeared walking towards me
"What business do you have here priestess?" the man called out
"..." I remained silent and merely watched the man before walking away from him towards another direction
"Don't turn away from me!" he yelled drawing his sword and charging toward me yet I merely formed a shield of ice to counter his attack as I continued out.
"What are you some kind of demon?!" he yelled confused but then dark clouds suddenly formed above and strange black liquid started to fall
"Oh no, not again!" the man yelled running for cover yet I remained waiting and watching as I used my control over water to keep myself from becoming drenched in the strange liquid.
But then a hand formed from an acuminating puddle near me and reached out for me.
Jumping back I dodged its reach only to have more hands spring out from other puddles.
I merely kept jumping and dodging the reach of the puddles when suddenly I accidentally stepped in one and a hand grabbed my leg causing pain to erupt from its grip. Drawing my sword I sliced it apart and they had disappeared only to have more hands appear in its place.
Quickly I ran for cover only to have an arm shoot out from a nearby house and drag me inside. it was the man from before dressed in dark armor or rather he was as the armor now laid near a small fire drying out as the man himself was now dressed in his normal clothes.
"Why are you here woman?" the man asked narrowing his dark eyes at me
"I am on a journey to master the powers given to me." I said calmly as I sheathed my sword and the man watched me carefully
"Never seen a Priestess carry a sword." he commented sitting next to his small fire as I remained standing watching him in caution.
"This village used to be great and our springs were known for their spiritual powers but then this thing appeared. The springs were tainted and soon after the black rain started." he said calmly "sorry about attacking you before I needed to know if you were the one causing all of this. But after the rain attacked you I figured you might be our savior."
"You speak as if there are others? Are the others not dead out there?" I asked calmly
"Those were travelers many of our people tried to warn them to leave but they didn't listen. Our people have been seeking refuge in a hidden village not too far from here. But the rain it keeps returning day after day like clockwork every four hours." the man said looking into the fire
"The thing that tainted the spring's do you know what it looked like?" I asked
"It looked like a white baboon but also like a man. It dropped something in to the springs and sense then the water became like acid and the rain appeared."
"I see." I said calmly looking out the door way as the rain started to slow before it disappeared entirely and the puddles of black disappeared along with it "take me to the springs." I said calmly
"What are you nuts? That area's been cursed ever since that baboon messed with it." the man yelled
"If you want to save your village you will do as I say." I said calmly and the man looked hesitant before he nodded.
Quickly he placed his armor on once again
Soon he led me to an area surrounded by dead, dying or rotten plants and even some animals. The spring in question was a small pool and a small spigot that was drilled in to a large stone that held sacred seals on a woven rope. The pond it's self was black as night and unmoving as the water that normally would have fallen from the spigot in the stone stood dry.
"Not a single drop has been added to the spring since it was tainted." the villager said woefully.
"..." without responding to him I moved closer to the spring
"Hey are you stupid or something!" the man said grabbing my forearm and pulling me back
"I am going to purify it." I stated simply and he looked confused before he hesitantly released my arm. As I approached the black water I picked up a small pebble and tossed it into the water and a strange sludge like substance rushed up forming a strange almost one eyed creature. I say almost one eyed as the shard of the sacred jewel glowed where one may expect an eye to be but of course not everyone who sees this beast can see this.
The sludge creature than attacked me as I dodged and the village man ran to hide. As the sludge beast continued to attack by sending globs of sludge at me I noticed several hands forming in the puddles left by the attacks.
"Mizu" I called and pure water appeared diluting the sludge puddles and leaving them harmless I then drew my sword and coated it with water before I attacked the beast where I could see the shikon jewel shard and once the shard was removed the beast diminished to a small black tadpole that I then fished out of the spring water and sealed it in a small canister using a sacred seal Miroku and even grandpa Higarashi showed me only when I placed it on the canister it glowed slightly signifying it's power.
"I have sealed the beast in here and now your village will be safe." I said calmly and the man looked surprised as he approached me and took the canister from my hands.
I then proceeded to pick up the jewel shard and add it to a small vile I had around my neck similar to one that Kagome has as well. And with the jewel shard removed and purified the spring began to flow from the rock once more.
"It's a miracle." the man said as tears appeared in his eyes "thank you Priestess."
"No need to thank me, merely live the rest of your life in peace and help your village prosper once again." I said as I took my leave.
Yet as I continued on my way the wound I received on my first encounter with the black rain started to act up. The place where the black hand had touched me was starting to burn and bruise
Finally I happened upon a Temple but at that point I was using my sword to keep my balance.
When I reached the Temple somewhat pudgy man appeared with thick eyebrows that cover his eyes and a large mustache
"Hello child how may I help you?" he asked then he noticed my unsheathed sword that I was leaning on heavily
"Good monk I need help as I was attacked by a demon and was injured by it." I said struggling to focus my eyes.
Normally I would be able to heal myself using my power over water but for some reason my powers were blocked.
"Yes, dear come in." he said yet as I moved to enter the building I stumbled and was lost in a world of black.
