IT WAS THE YEAR 850, Eren Jaeger had just discovered his titan shifting abilities, and plugged the hole in Wall Rose during the Battle of Trost. Due to this unforeseen ability, he is placed into the hands of the Survey Corps for testing and experiments. Soon after, his friends from the 104th cadet corps follow him into the Scout Regiment.
A string of hope and wonder has begun to infiltrate humanity, as the Scouts continue to gain strength and new information. Regardless of the alliance Eren provides for humanity, there are still those who are scared of this new shifting power and wish him dead. With tensions rising and expectations piling, the Scouts scramble to find more ways to help humanity and prove Eren is a valuable asset.
During this new era for the Scouts, expeditions into titan territory have continued. However, alarming discoveries begin to flood in. Soldiers report seeing remnants of what appears to be freshly killed titans in places the expeditions have no reached yet. A small minority have even reported seeing a lone soldier on the outskirts of expeditions, but none had been able to make contact yet.
Nonetheless, people love their gossip. Word begins to spread of a mysterious 'warrior', fighting for humanity out on the front lines. The true intentions of this ghostly character are seemingly unknown, but the public is quick as ever to make their own conclusions.
Some have even gone as far as to claim it's one of the Abertines, a fictional folktale about a family of warriors that live far outside Wall Maria.
Fiction or not, word gets around to Erwin Smith who, desperate for a new discovery, sets out on a private investigation into these claims.
On a whim, Erwin decides to look into the Abertine rumor, convinced that this name could lead to more than just a fairytale. He tasks Hange with leading the investigation and on her most recent trip to the palace, she slipped her way into the private royal library. Their findings were startling.

You wiped the sweat from your brow as the body of a four meter titan slammed into the ground, creating a poof of dust around it. You had left your small camp up in the trees to hunt for food, and ran into one of the bastards.
Just my luck, you thought. The blood on your stolen ODM gear fizzled up as you walked away from the steaming titan.
Returning to your camp, you peered down at the malnourished rabbit in your hand and breathed a sigh. It was all you had managed to catch.
You tried to fight off the growing hunger pains as you tossed together a small fire and took to skinning the rabbit of its fur. The summer air was humid and sticky, but a welcoming breeze tussled your hair while you carefully removed as much meat as you could find.
