Levi crossed his legs lazily as he sat in the back of the meeting room. Erwin had summoned a small group of soldiers and recruits to discuss the findings Hange uncovered about the Abertine clan. Most of the brats from the 104th Cadet Corp were there, Eren included. Levi's squad was there as well, Petra tossing quick glances in the Captain's direction that he chose to ignore.
"Thank you for all coming on such a late notice." Erwin began once everyone was situated. "I know it's an abrupt meeting, considering we leave for our 57th expedition tomorrow. However, I would not have summoned you all if I didn't deem it important."
"That being said," His sultry voice raised slightly, making sure he truly had everyone's attention. "Nothing that is said in this room shall be repeated outside of it. I have my own reasons for selecting this group as the bearers of this knowledge because I deem you trustworthy. For this portion of the mission to work, it will require the utmost secrecy. Understood?"
Everyone nodded and he stepped back and turned to Hange, "Hange, if you will..."
The Section Commander stepped forward, bouncy per usual, "To keep things brief, I'll be short and sweet with the introductions. As I'm sure you are aware, odd findings have been reported by our expedition squads. I know a few rumors have been going around about the identity of the soldier. I would like to clarify that I am not here to entertain any fairytales or folklore, but we have been conducting an investigation of our own privately and have made a few discoveries we feel are important to inform you of."
She slammed a medium sized book onto the table. The cover was a deep shade of purple, and the gold foil of the title was almost entirely worn off. The book was in a pretty poor condition, however the title Abertine was barely visible on the cover. This gained confused looks from those sitting around the table.
"I retrieved this book from the royal library a little while ago. I know the Abertines are a bedtime story you were told as kids, but in times like these it seems anything is possible, so we had to consider all options." She began flipping through the pages, most of which were blacked out with ink or torn out entirely.
"We couldn't uncover much, as it seems like someone went through painstaking lengths to keep the contents of this book a secret. However, the story contains mentions of a 'Protector Titan' ability that runs in the Abertine family. Considering what we now know about Eren, the idea of humans turning into titans isn't a far off reality."
A silent shock filled the room. Levi glanced over at Eren who had his mouth open in shock. "You mean there's more people like me?" He asked.
"This is all currently speculative. And there is only so much I'm at liberty to share with you all while the investigation is ongoing. However, during my search, I also discovered records of a warrant out for the execution of those by the name of Abertine dating back quite some time. We don't yet know if they're related. But what we do know is that there is a secret here that someone wants erased from the public's knowledge."
