You peeked through the windows of the store you were in to make sure the coast was clear. The street was still empty — no sounds could be heard and no people could be seen.
You quietly stepped over the broken entrance door, glass crunching under your boot. Your gut was telling you something wasn't right. Something about this scene was too quiet. You haven't seen any civilians come this way at all, even though this was a residential area. You narrowed your eyes and scanned the scene once more, crouched low and ready for action.
Still nothing, though. You had no time to waste either, your tank was running low and you needed to find Levi. You tightened your bandage on your leg one last time before drawing your swords, ready to trigger your gear.
However, as you stepped out from under the cover of the shop awning, bullets sprayed from all corners, breaking up the cobblestone around you. You cried out in surprise and barely had time to react as you covered your head in shock, waiting for the metal to make contact with your body.
But the pain never came.
"There you are." You heard a familiar male voice call out.
You opened your eyes to a firing squad of Military Soldiers aiming their guns at you. Nile Dok stood some feet for you, hands gripped behind his back.
You cursed, realizing you were surrounded. They must have been following you and chose the moment you let your guard down to attack. If any of your comrades were alive, there was no way they could help you now.
"Lower your weapons, Abertine." The man ordered. "If you try anything, I have thirty men ready to blow you to bits."
You glared daggers, but did as he said. Slowly, you unbuckled your ODM gear and it clanked as it dropped to the ground. An unnamed female soldier approached you to collect the gear, and dragged it over to Nile, making sure it was far out of your reach.
You held eye contact with Nile, exhausting all your escape options in your head, but you could think of nothing.
"If you're thinking about escaping, don't. You won't make it far out of the city, I can promise you that." He said, walking closer to you.
You frowned and raised your hands in surrender as you concluded you were at the mercy of the Military Police now. You didn't even know if your friends were still around to help you, anyway. So escaping was pointless — you'd never make it out on your own.
How could you be so foolish? How did they get this close? You were sure you weren't followed.
"So you're one of the notorious Abertines, huh?" He asked, now standing in front of you. He motioned for a soldier to put you in handcuffs.
Out of the corner of your eye, a glint of sunlight off ODM gear caught your attention. A few figures landed silently on the rooftops in the distance. Your heart skipped a beat.
