Chapter 29: Shadows Unveiled

IZUKU SLOLWY opened his eyes, greeted by the sterile brightness of the hospital room. The familiar surroundings brought a sense of both relief and disquiet. As he surveyed the room, his attention was drawn to a bowl of food and a note from his mom, a comforting touch in the midst of the turmoil.

The door swung open, and Kaminari entered, his face lighting up with genuine joy. "Midoriya! It's nice to see you awake." Behind him trailed some of their classmates, each carrying expressions that mirrored a blend of concern and relief.

"Have you seen the news? Reporters are all over the school right now," Kaminari shared, setting the tone for the conversation. Sato chimed in, emphasizing the gravity of the situation, "Yeah, it's worse than last time."

Mineta, ever the cheerful soul, held up a melon, a collective gift from the classmates. "Look what we got you! It's from all of us – a melon!"

Darkness loomed in the corner as Bakugo stood silently against the wall, offering no words but a presence that spoke volumes. Izuku felt a pang of guilt for the trouble he had caused.

Iida spoke up, delivering updates on their injured classmates. "Jirou and Hagakure are still out from the poisonous gas. Momo got really injured, too – head injuries – and she's in the hospital. She woke up yesterday."

Uraraka, with a tinge of sadness, shared the grim reality. "There's only 16 of us now because Y/N was captured."

Todoroki muttered under his breath, "He knows," causing Mina to nervously shout, "He knows what?"

Izuku's eyes widened as he remembered your words before the capture, "Please... stay here, Izuku-kun."

"All Might told me there are always people beyond our reach that we can't protect even though we want to," Izuku choked out, tears welling up in his eyes. The class fell silent, absorbing the weight of his words.

"I was so close to being able to save her. I needed to save her. My body wouldn't move. I couldn't save someone who was right in front of me, someone who always saved me. Why couldn't I have done the same this time?" he cried out, his vulnerability laid bare.

Kirishima sighed, staring down at Izuku. "Alright, let's go and get her," he declared, a determination emanating from his every word.

Confusion and shock painted the faces of the classmates. "I was already there, and so was Todoroki. We overheard Momo talking to All Might and an officer. She had created a tracker and placed it on a nomu, and it came with a remote that could read where the villain was," Kirishima explained.

"Kirishima, you planning on asking her to make another one, aren't you?" Iida questioned, looking down.

"And what about it?" Kirishima retorted, his teeth clenched. Todoroki glanced at Iida, sensing the tension.

"You should listen to what All Might said. We have to leave this to the pros. It's not the right time for us to get involved in this!" Iida shouted, his frustration evident.

"Maybe, but all I know is that at camp, I couldn't do anything. I heard my friend was targeted, and I just stood there, helpless. So if I stand by now, how am I supposed to call myself a hero or a man?" Kirishima shouted back, his anger palpable.

"Dude, calm down. We're in a hospital," Kaminari hushed him.

"Listen to me for a moment. I know what you're saying is right, but still!" Kirishima exclaimed, extending his arm towards Izuku. "Come on, Midoriya. She's still within your reach – our reach. We can save Y/N!"
