Let's face it, Thranduil has had a hard life. Like, he deserves a little peace.He stayed in Mirkwood so long for Legolas. As soon as his son left with the dwarf (of all people!) Thranduil decided that he couldn't stay in Mirkwood.Thranduil decided to retire to the shire after remembering Bilbo. He remembered hearing from Bilbo that it was a very peaceful place, and that was just what he needed.As soon as he stepped foot in the Shire, Thranduil was surrounded by curious hobbits. For the first few weeks, Thranduil never got any peace, there were way too many visitors in his large hobbit hole.Eventually though, things died down and he finally got peaceHe made very good friends with Sam Almost every day, at least one of Sam's children came visiting Thranduil enjoyed being around children, he hadn't been around one since Legolas was a childThranduil spent the rest of his days working on his garden and sipping tea with Hobbits.
