Friday’s POV

I wonder why I was summoned to the headmaster’s office now. Was I in trouble? No, why would I be. I haven’t done anything, at least I don’t think I have. Maybe I said something on accident. As I pondered on the endless possibilities, I had reached the headmaster’s office. As usual Ms Priddock welcomed me with her sickly-sweet smile, earning the attention of a passing Mr McClean, gosh what a creep.

3rd person POV

Friday knocked on the door. No answer, she knocked harder, still no answer. Now Friday was worried and with all the strength she had, which wasn’t much, she gave one final knock. At least that’s what she planned instead she found herself moving forward, tripping on her straying shoelace. But before she met the rug, a pair of strong arms caught her. It was Mr Lopez, the principal of WaterWay High, also known as Friday’s godfather.

He helped her onto her feet, and then rustled her hair, which was met with some sort of fusion of kung fu and hip hop on Friday’s part. Safe to say the headmaster of highcrest was.. confused and feigned a look of, … happiness? Friday wondered what was going on.

Well Barnes, there’s a matter we both have to discuss with you, regarding your education. It seems that your godfather wishes for you to attend Waterway High after it has been renovated. Whereas I think you are better suited here in Highcrest. You are a valuable asset to all and you do keep us out of financial and legal trouble. But of course, this is your choice but please choose as soon as possible. He also continually mentioned the fact that Waterway high wasn’t offering her a scholarship and thus Highcrest was better suited for her.

The headmasters seemed fluster but that didn’t matter to Friday. She felt hurt, not because she could potentially move to a new school but because the headmaster didn’t see her as a person, more so as an asset to exploit. He seemed more upset about losing her skills and the schools academic ratings instead of caring for her as a person.

Whereas Mr Lopez was the opposite. He ensured Friday that this was her choice and that he wanted to make sure his god-daughter was safe. He had only recently took the job as principle of Waterway High after his tour of South America and was her primary guardian before even her uncle. He didn’t offer her a scholarship as he knows that she wanted to live a ‘normal’ life, away from the troubles her academically gifted troubles of her family. He would be the one to pay her fees and honestly he didn’t mind. Though he was shocked that she did not take the offer immediately and though maybe she made some new friends at High crest.

After what seemed like years Friday excused herself from the principle’s office and made her way back to Mrs Cannon’s room. She had a big decision to make and not much time. Waterway High would reopen in just 3 months, a day after her deadline in order to fill in the appropriate paper work. What would she choose? The school which she used to get away from her family or the one who welcomes her and sees her as a normal human being instead of an asset?

It took only 7 minutes to reach Mrs Cannon’s room, though Friday wasn’t sure if she should go in. Maybe take another lap around the school, maybe to the canteen. No that was childish, she would eventually have to tell Melanie about this situation, but maybe she could delay it.

She decided to take another lap, not to the cafeteria but to Mr Fontana's office. Now Friday would never admit it, especially after the burpee fiasco, but she felt solace with Mr Fontana. He was the first one to attempt to have a normal student-teacher relationship with her besides Cannon and felt like he gave more realistic advise.

It was shameful but she thought if Fontana as a replacement of her oldest brother Orion, at least the Orion she remembered. The Orion who took care of her when she was sick and babysat her in her parent's absence. The Orion before he became career driven madness and forgot all about her.

Yes in a way Fontana was her version of Orion and that's why she wanted to go see him, for ... brotherly advice. It was the same reason why Mr Lopez was also very quick in becoming friends with Fontana as he also reminded him of Orion before his corruption by physics.

She made her way across the field and into the gym. She passed the storage room and stood near the trophy case, all filled with inscriptions of Ian winning MVP or Champion of bla blah blah.

There was a small opening by the doorway where she peeked through and saw Fontana surrounded by a number of consent and other types of forms. He seemed stressed and then noticed the short girl through the opening. He beckoned her in and that is where she fell.

Not physically but emotional. She drated towards Fontana, and tackled him, yes tackled him into a hug. Water streamed down her face and looked at Fontana, so weak, so vulnerable.

For the first time in Friday’s life, she wasn’t sure on what to do. And she just sat there, in a sort of embrace with poor Fontana confused as to why she started crying when she saw him.
