Chapter 13: Dead Lock

After hearing that her father's grave may have been desecrated and that he may walk among the living once more sent her into such a shock that Sarah dropped the file and ran off. Laura tried to stop her but Sarah just wouldn't stop so Laura went to talk to Malcolm. "I just don't know what would possess her to run off like that!" Said Laura as she hadn't actually heard the patients gossiping like Sarah did.
"Oh god!" Said Malcolm as he quickly picked up the phone in his office and dialed the cellphone number of someone he hoped could help Sarah because he too had heard the rumors and though he missed his dear friend he knew it would be better if this city just let him be but Malcolm knew that the one thing beautiful, pure, amazing, lovely Sarah had in common with the scum of this city was that no matter what she would never let go of her father. No matter how horrible the Joker was in life, she could never not love him and that's why they needed to stop her before she did something she was going to regret because Malcolm knew better than anyone that just because her father always had the best intentions in mind didn't mean he didn't bring out the worst in her.

"Hello?" Asked Daniel as he stood in Oswald's parlor, he, Oswald, Edward, and Lorraine were playing pool together when he picked up his phone. Malcolm explained the situation to Daniel and everyone else could feel the static building in the room.
"Daddy are you alright?" Asked Lorraine as she stepped closer to Daniel and tried to place her hand on his shoulder but Oswald and Edward quickly pulled her as far across the room as they could to get her away from him. They recognized this intense volume of electricity in the air and the two of them had only ever felt Daniel produce this much electricity once and that ended with one of Daniel's foolish lackeys being electrocuted just for standing a foot away from him.
"SON OF A BITCH!!" Daniel screamed as he slammed his cellphone down on the pool table and the phone burst into flames. Daniel stood there breathing heavily for a moment then he took a deep breath, fixed his tie, and exhaled. "Excuse me, I have to go deal with something." Said Daniel as he stepped out of the room leaving the door knob red hot as he closed the door.

Daniel got into the car and drove down to the Narrows. As he drove through the streets of the Narrows the street lamps light bulbs burst because of the wattage of electricity that Daniel produced was so high that even what little electricity in the buildings near him started to flicker violently. People on the street screamed and ran as they saw his car because though Daniel was more liked in the Narrows than Oswald ever was but everyone in the entire city knew to fear him when you feel his presence for three blocks in every direction around him. Finally Daniel parked the car and got out. He had parked in front of an old Pharmacy that he had turned into a drug manufacturing facility. He walked inside and screamed at the first person he saw. "WHERE THE FUCK IS DOUG!?" He screamed as the person pointed down the hall and was completely terrified. Daniel growled and literally stormed down the hall. "Paging Dr. Douglas Wilson!" He screamed down the hall as lightning started to emanate from his body. He slid off one of his gloves and blew the door open with a violent blast of electricity to see a man standing in a surgical theatre with the dead body of the Joker laying on a table in front of him. The man dropped his scalpel and started backing up. "I ASK YOU TO DO ONE FUCKING THING! Don't let my wife, JOKER'S FUCKING DAUGHTER, find out that we were bringing him back and then I get a phone call from my wife's boss telling me that she knows!" Said Daniel as he walked over to the man. "Do you know how FUCKING MAD I AM!?" Daniel screamed as lightning sparked from his ungloved hand and his eyes burned a bright violent blue.
"Please sir! I didn't mean for her to find out but one of my thieves got caught and made an insanity plea! I wasn't expecting him to tell people there what we were doing!" Said the man as he backed away from Daniel but tripped and fell to the ground. "Please have mercy! Please I beg of you!" He cried out as he covered his face expecting Daniel to kill him.
"You're the one doing this?" Asked Sarah's voice as Daniel turned and saw her standing there with tears in her eyes. "Why didn't you want me to know?" Asked Sarah as her voice trembled and she began to cry.
"Baby wait!" Said Daniel as his sparks dulled and he ran over. "I did this for you! I knew how hard it was for you being without him and every time we went to see his grave it hurt to see you like that!" Said Daniel as he put his bare hand on the side of her face wiping her tears. "I know it hurt you to know you couldn't help him and then to know that whatever the hell is wrong with his head is wrong with our baby girl! I couldn't take it anymore! If we fix him, we can fix her too! She won't have to live like he did! I won't let her live like that." Said Daniel as he started to cry too. "I did this for you and I did this for Lorraine." Said Daniel as Sarah hugged him.
"I love you!" She said as she sobbed into his chest. Daniel rubbed her shoulder and kissed the top of her head.
"I love you too." Said Daniel as he held her close like this until she finally stopped crying.

Once both their tears ceased Daniel looked over at Doug who was hiding behind Joker's corpse. "Get to work you sorry piece of shit!" Daniel growled as the doctor and stood though he was shaking.
"Um sir now that you're not going to kill me I think um... We've run into a bit of a problem..." Said Doug as Daniel's eye flared.
"What?!" Daniel growled as Sarah put her hand on his chest.
"I suspected as much." Said Sarah as Daniel's eyes dulled.
"What do you mean?" Asked Daniel as Sarah sighed.
"Dad was killed with something that was meant to keep me dead so obviously the normal means of bringing back the dead won't solve this." Said Sarah as Daniel looked at her with a curious eye.
"What do you think will work." Asked Daniel as Sarah hummed and thought for a moment.
"Well first off your going to need an anticoagulant to run through his veins so his blood isn't this sticky mess." Said Sarah as she dipped the tip of her finger into the large bullet wound in her father's chest and tapped her fingers together to show that the blood was thick and sticking together like glue.
"That's one problem we can cross off the list." Said Doug as he wrote down her suggestions.
"And then the process should finish itself once the blood is thinned out." Said Sarah as Daniel started to laugh. "What is so funny, Daniel?" Asked Sarah as Daniel looked at her and smiled.
"You just solved a problem I have been trying to solve for the past 2 months in 5 seconds!" Said Daniel with a bright soft smile that no one who worked for Daniel had ever seen before so the room that had about 4 of his typical muscle bound guards, 5 different medical student drop outs he had hired to help bring back Joker, and Doug who had worked on the team that turned Daniel into what he is now and every single one of them were utterly lost by Daniel's sudden kind and truly sweet nature that seemed to be brought out by Sarah. Sarah suddenly looked over and eyed Doug.
"I recognize you!" Said Sarah as she walked around the operating table and walked up to Doug. He looked utterly terrified and revealed his teeth in his terrified expression to allow Sarah to see Doug's gold tooth which caused her to remember a memory. She remembered his face looking over her as he performed brain surgery on her whilst she was still awake. She remembered seeing him step away and take off his mask to reveal his gold tooth as he lit a cigarette. She remembered the words that escaped his mouth as he smoked across the room.
"Fuckin freaks! Wish I could just lobotomize the lot of em, guess I'll just have to settle for overdosing Penguin's brat!" She remembered hearing him laugh at Daniel's death so why would he be working for him and not be slaughtered like she thought he deserved. Sarah picked up a scalpel off the tray and tried to attack him but Daniel quickly grabbed her wrist.
"Sarah it's ok!" Said Daniel as he looked into her eyes and calmed her blind rage just like she had done for him so many years. She looked at him and blinked.
"Oh god... I-I am so... I-I didn't mean to..." Sarah said in a shaky tone as Daniel brushed a hair behind her ear.
"It's ok, I understand." Said Daniel as he held the side of her face. "Come on let's get you back to work ok?" Asked Daniel as Sarah nodded.
"Yes I do need to go back to work." Said Sarah as he led her out of the room but before leaving himself he took Sarah's keys out of the pocket of her lab coat.
"Here drop my wife's car off at her work." Said Daniel as he tossed the keys to one of his lackeys.

Daniel took Sarah back to work and then had a chat with Malcolm. "I see you found her, did she?" Asked Malcolm implying the thought of her doing something she would regret.
"No I stopped her, but they're getting worse and those damn antipsychotics aren't doing shit!" Daniel barked as Malcolm huffed.
"This is why her father had a dozen different prescriptions while he was in Arkham." Said Malcolm as the two walked into Malcolm's office. "I'm afraid there's nothing we can do but monitor her closely and make sure nothing triggers her." Said Malcolm as Daniel sighed angrily.
"That's not what I wanted to hear!" Daniel growled through his teeth trying not to get upset but the lights still began to flicker.
"Well I'm out of alternatives, Daniel! I should have never released her! She is a mess!" Said Malcolm as Daniel slammed his hands on Malcolm's desk as he began to spark.
"WATCH YOUR FUCKING MOUTH!!" Daniel shouted but then took a breath and adjusted his tie. "We had no other choice, it was one thing taking care of a twelve year old without his mother but adding a fast growing infant to my plate was just too much, my children needed their mother so I had to use my connections to get her out whether she was actually better or not." Said Daniel as Malcolm leaned over his desk.
"I understand that but do you really think Sarah will understand that after I spent the last 2 months of her incarceration convincing her that she wasn't criminally insane! If she finds out she'll kill us both in one of her episodes!" Said Malcolm as Daniel's eyes started to flicker bright blue with electricity.
"But she hasn't, right?" Asked Daniel as Malcolm sighed.
"Not as far as I know, no." Said Malcolm as Daniel huffed.
"Good, now I'm going to go home and if I get another phone call from you about something setting her off again, I'm electrocuting you through the phone." Said Daniel as he left. Sarah caught him on the way out and gave him a kiss.
"Thank you for doing this." Said Sarah as Daniel put his hand on the side of her face.
"Of course, anything for you."
