Chapter 18: The Thunder

Rain poured down over Gotham, thunder and lightning cracked along the sky over head. Thudding footsteps echoed as he ran through the tunnel trying to evade authorities. "GCPD! Stop!" Shouted a uniform officer as he ran. He ran into an alley but then noticed that it was blocked off by a chain link fence and on the other side was a car he recognized. A black limo with the window rolled down just enough to see the face of his enemy. He knew he had better chances with the cops than he would with her. "Daniel Van Dahl, put your hands in the air!" Shouted an officer as Daniel looked up at the sky wishing he could see the sun one last time but then a crack of lightning spread over the dark dreary sky. He could feel the electricity in the air so he knew what he had to do. Daniel slid off his rubbed gloves that protected others from the power that he could not control then took a deep breath.
"Don't worry officers, I'll come quietly." Said Daniel as he lifted his hands then felt the electricity coursing through his veins then he used what little of his powers that he could control then he felt himself in this sort of free fall where he was looking down on Gotham then he reached down to the city and appeared in the middle of the four cops that were trying to arrest him. Daniel then quickly grabbed two of the officers and fried their brains with his bare hands, pressing his palms against their temples. Applying 50 watts of electricity directly against their skulls frying their brains and the rest of their insides. Once all the officers were dead Daniel slid back on his gloves and disappeared in another flash of lightning. An hour later the bodies were found and Daniel was in the wind.

48 hours prior to this event Sarah found her son Adam in GCPD Lock Up with her father. "Adam, how could you let your grandfather drag you into this?" Asked Sarah as Adam hung his head.
"Sorry Mom." He said softly as Joker walked up to the bars.
"Come on sweetheart, I was letting the boy have a little fun, you and Danny Boy keep too tight of a leash on him." Said Joker as Sarah sighed.
"Dr. Ivory, I would like to ask you a few questions before we release Adam to you." Said Jim Gordon as Sarah nodded and followed him.
"Of course." She said as she went with him to his office.
"Do you have any idea where your father might've been these past 3 years?" Asked Jim as Sarah shook her head.
"No, usually my father kept in contact but this time was different, this time I believe he was intentionally trying to stay away from me and my family for our own safety." Said Sarah as Jim nodded.
"Did you have any contact with him in the past 6 months?" Asked Jim as she shook her head.
"No, not until today." Said Sarah as she just wanted to get this done and over with.
"Are you aware of any plans he may have to destroy the city?" Asked Jim as she shook her head.
"No." Said Sarah as Jim sighed.
"Alright, well you're aware of the charges against your son?" Asked Jim as Sarah shook her head.
"No, I wasn't aware that there were any." Said Sarah as Jim sighed.
"Well these are first offenses but he's charged with arson, he would've been charged with assault but the kid he hit doesn't want to press charges says that he struck Adam first by mistake and your son was only defending himself." Said Jim as Sarah scoffed.
"This kid probably isn't from Gotham to be so kind to a complete stranger." Said Sarah as Jim smirked and nodded.
"My thoughts exactly, so I checked his ID, kid's from Star City, Washington." Said Jim as he stood.
"Long way from home." Said Sarah as he showed her to the door. Jim walked over to the cell and opened it.
"Come on, Ivory, you're bailed out." Said Jim as Adam stood but looked over at Joker.
"Are you gonna be ok Uncle J, maybe we could find a way to pay your bail too." Said Adam as Joker laughed.
"Trust me kiddo, there is no amount of money in the entire world that could pay my bail. I'll be fine, Adam, they're just gonna ship me off to my Ha Ha Hacienda!" Said Joker as he sat up from the bench he was laying on. "Come here, gimme a hug, I'm probably not gonna see you for a while." Said Joker as he opened his arms and wrapped them around his grandson.
"I'll come and visit you if you want?" Adam asked as Joker shrugged.
"I got your mom to keep me company but if anyone starts messing with you because I'm back let me know and I'll take care of em." Said Joker as he placed his hands on the side of Adam's face.
"I think I can handle myself but I appreciate the thought." Said Adam as  he smiled.
