AUTHOR POV
The sun rose steadily, painting the horizon with hues of golden orange and soft pink, casting its warm glow across the sprawling Das mansion. The tranquil morning was slowly coming alive with the subtle sounds of chirping birds and the faint rustle of leaves swayed by a gentle breeze. Inside one of the rooms, Anshi Das, a woman in her late forties, stood by the window. Her graceful features reflected the sunlight as she pulled open the heavy curtains, allowing the morning light to flood the room.
"Chalo, chalo, ab uth jao beta. Bahut der ho gayi hai," Anshi said, her tone a mix of affection and urgency. She turned to face the bed, where a young girl of nineteen lay sprawled, her face hidden beneath a soft blanket. The sunlight, despite its persistence, couldn't reach the girl's corner of the bed, and she seemed perfectly content in her cocoon of slumber.
This was Bondita, the youngest and most pampered member of the Das family, currently refusing to acknowledge the start of a brand-new day.
"Aree, please maa, aur do minute sone dijiye na," Bondita mumbled, her voice muffled and her eyes shut tightly, resisting any attempt to rise from her peaceful sleep.
Anshi sighed, a fond smile tugging at her lips as she moved closer to the bed. "Beta, tumhara yeh 'do minute' na, do ghante se chal raha hai. Isliye ab uth jao! Aaj college ka first day hai. Late ho kar jaogi, toh pehle din hi first impression kharab ho jayegi."
Her words carried the weight of motherly concern as she gently sat beside Bondita's bed. But Bondita, oblivious to the gravity of her mother's warning, only stirred slightly under her blanket.
Suddenly, like a bolt of lightning, realization struck. Bondita shot up with a jolt, her blanket flying off her face. "Oh no! Maa! Aaj toh mera college tha! Aapne mujhe uthaya kyun nahi?!" she exclaimed, her voice tinged with panic.
Anshi chuckled, amused at her daughter's dramatic reaction. "Ohho, dekho toh, ulta chor kotwal ko daante! Ekdam apne papa par gayi ho," she teased, reaching out to pinch Bondita's nose affectionately.
"Chor? Kotwal? Papa ne kya churaya?" Bondita asked, her confusion evident as she furrowed her brows.
Anshi couldn't resist a playful smirk. "Papa ne kya churaya? Arre Bondita, beta, tu theek toh hai na? Yeh kya bol rahi hai? Aur waise tumne poocha na, papa ne kya churaya? Tere papa ne tere mummy ka dil churaya hai!" she declared with mock drama, a twinkle of mischief in her eyes.
Bondita groaned, realizing she'd walked straight into her mother's playful trap. "Mummyyyy! Aapne mujhe fir se baaton mein laga diya!" she complained, folding her arms in mock annoyance.
Anshi's laugh was light and melodious, filling the room with warmth. "Maine? Maine kya kiya? Achha, ab jaa, ready ho jaa. Nahin toh late ho jayegi, aur uske baad mujhe hi sunaegi, 'Maa, aapke wajah se hi main late ho gayi!'" she mimicked Bondita's voice, exaggerating her tone, which only earned an eye-roll from her daughter.
Bondita huffed as she swung her legs off the bed, heading toward the washroom. "You know what, Maa? Aap meri nakal bahut buri tarike se karti ho," she remarked over her shoulder, her mock irritation making Anshi laugh even harder.
"Durga Maa!" Anshi called out dramatically, raising her hands to the heavens. "Yeh ladki bina kuch kahe mujhe chain se jeene nahi degi!" she exclaimed, shaking her head as Bondita disappeared into the washroom, leaving the room brimming with love, laughter, and the warmth of a mother-daughter bond.
The early morning sun cast its golden rays across the sprawling Roy Choudhary mansion, illuminating its grandeur with a soft glow. The air was filled with the faint aroma of incense as Shubhra Roy Choudhary, the matriarch of the family, stood in front of the grand idol of Durga Maa. Draped in an elegant sari, she gracefully waved the aarti thali, her prayers resonating with devotion and serenity.
