There goes the wake up call. New day, new hour, new school. Excitement rushed through my veins as the realisation hit me. Today I was going to meet new people and make new friends. I was going to start over, forget the past and think about the future.
I scrambled out of bed and silenced the alarm. I walked downstairs into the kitchen and ate my favourite breakfast with my dad. Scrambled egg’s and toast. I intended to keep myself in a good mood all day. He was worried for me, like all fathers would be on a kid’s first school day.
I quickly finished eating and went to the bathroom to wash. I changed into my outfit of the day: skinny black jeans, white collared shirt and a green pullover jumper. I swiftly put some foundation, eyeliner and mascara on. I tied my hair up in a loose ponytail. I took a few moments to think and relax myself. I looked at the posters on my wall and wished that all those good-looking men could just come out of the pictures and wish me luck. It could never happen though…they were too unreachable. In your dreams, Amy.
As I tied my shoelaces, I started wondering whether I would be liked by my classmates. Was I going to be happy there? These thoughts floated around my head as I said goodbye to my family, while I walked to the station and when I got on the tube. I watched other people get on and off the train, all smartly dressed and ready for work. I saw teenagers in their school uniform looking very unhappy, most definitely wishing they could have another month of summer holidays.
Soon it was my stop; I got up from my seat and waited for the doors to open. Another girl from the next carriage got up and made her way towards me. I briefly glanced at her and she seemed awfully familiar. I looked at her again and realised that I had definitely seen her before, somewhere. She noticed me looking at her and she smiled, a huge bright white smile, it was sweet and reminded me of...
Suddenly it hit me. Was it really her? I smiled back. No, really? She looked so different! The doors opened and we both got off. She walked to the exit and I followed her. I may have seemed stalkerish, but this was Baker Street and I was meant to get out of the station anyway.
I wasn’t sure whether I should talk to her or not. I knew who she was, but I decided not to say anything. She was going the same way I was going, towards Saint Marylebone School. I went inside Paul’s to grab myself a coffee since I was fifteen minutes early. Even more importantly than that, she was becoming quite freaked out that I was following her everywhere. It wasn’t my fault really, but I though that I should let her be.
I drank the coffee and went out again. The autumn weather was arriving as a swift breeze ruffled my hair. I ran my hand through my hair and walked to the school, forgetting about her and moving on.
As a walked by Marylebone road, I noticed many Saint Marylebone students in their green uniforms walking towards the main school building. I entered the Sixth Form building and asked at reception where I was meant to go. The receptionist directed me to a classroom which I then entered and was greeted with many other students’ faces. They all glanced at me but then looked away. I guess it was because there were so many new Year 12 students that I couldn’t really be judged.
I took my coat off and hanged it up on a peg. I wasn’t really sure what I was supposed to be doing, but since everyone was talking to someone, I thought I’d just take my phone out and call my parents to tell them I arrived. My parents were always worried for me, and they demanded updates from me whenever I changed trains or buses. It was a real pain, but I guess it’s better to be safe than sorry.
When I told my dad, I hung up and texted my friends asking how they were. Then I hear a considerably loud voice next to me say.
‘Hi! I saw you earlier, what’s your name?’
I turned towards the person and realised that it was her, and she was talking to me.
‘Hey, yeah…um…my name is Amy.’ She was smiling like crazy.
‘That’s cool! My name is Eliza. You know earlier I thought you were stalking me, forgive me though.’ Her eyes shined as she pulled a cheeky grin.
I laughed, ‘I understand what you mean, I was following you. I must have freaked you out. Sorry,’ I could not believe what was actually happening to me. She was talking to me! I screamed inside and my heart was in my throat.
‘Nah, its okay. What are you taking for A-level?’
‘Art, Media Studies, Spanish and Biology.’
‘That’s cool. I’m doing Media Studies as well, we can help each other, do you want to sit next to me in today’s lesson?’
Oh my God this was almost like a dream come true.
‘Yeah, Eliza that would be great, Thanks.’
‘Okay then, I’ll catch you later then.’ With that she waved and then walked off to her lesson. I got my things ready and went to my own.
