The road stretched out before me. It seemed like it would take forever, yet the house was only five doors away. I tried to calm myself down. My heart was beating at one hundred miles per hour and I felt it drumming in my ears. I plodded on, eager to get to my destination.
I turned to face the house. It was huge. It towered above me and made me squint against the sun. I set my foot on the path leading to it and walked towards the large wooden door. As I neared it, I could not help but notice the beautiful glass designs engraved into it. I placed my hand over it to feel the texture, the cold rushed through my nerves in my warm hand.
Suddenly the door vanished from underneath my touch and was replaced by thin air. I was so taken from surprise that I stumbled forward and was caught in the arms of something solid and strong.
‘Whoops. Sorry, you alright?’ said a very familiar voice.
I looked up and gulped at the sight of this heavenly being. His bright white smile made my heart skip a beat. I quickly stood up straight and tucked my hair behind my ears.
‘Yeah, um thanks. Sorry. I was just looking at the designs on the door and you just took me by surprise,’ I grimaced. Yes Amy, just the right thing to say.
He laughed, ‘I’m extremely sorry, I just saw this shadow at the door and knew it was you so came to open it. Eliza’s told me a lot about you, Amy. Name’s Jack by the way.’
My mind froze. He said my fricking name!
‘Hi Jack. So, what did Eliza tell you?’ I had to know what Eliza told him about me.
‘Well she told me that you are kind and lovely, and so far, she seems very right.’ He flashed his teeth for a split second and before I could say anything he held the door open wider, ‘I completely forgot, come in. Eliza’s here.’
He ushered me inside and I walked into what I would call a mansion, not a house! The high ceilings with a huge crystal-like chandelier hanging from it, perfectly white walls and a staircase leading up to heaven itself, I bet.
‘Over here,’ Jack directed me through a large door. I scurried towards him. I felt like an idiot…not a good first impression, I was sure of it. He walked on and I could not help but breathe in deeply and smell the cologne drifting in the air that he walked by. It sent a shiver down my spine.
‘Hey Amy!’ Oh I knew who this was.
‘Hi Eliza!’ I said when I turned the corner and saw her huge smile beaming across her face. I adored her.
She rushed up to me and hugged me, squeezing out all the breath that I had in my lungs.
‘How are you? I see you’ve met Jack already.’
‘Yeah I have, but I’m good thanks, you?’ She let go of me and held me by the arms.
‘I’ve been great! I just got some other ideas together and Finn’s helping me with the playwright.’ I was about to say that I had done it too when she turned around and I noticed Finn coming round from the other side of the kitchen counter.
‘Hi.’ He said, and did his classic crooked grin. I felt like I was in a movie.
‘Hi.’ I replied and smiled awkwardly. I wasn’t really good at meeting people and striking up conversations, but Jack was obviously very confident. He clapped his hands together and said, ‘Right. Who wants something to drink? Amy?’
‘That would be great, thanks,’ I asked him what there was and as soon as he said mango juice, I settled on that. My favorite.
Once everyone had a drink, we crowded around a huge white table and set everything up. I took out the things I had done earlier and put them aside.
