'So' Max said staring at Saffron 'what did you guys talk about in there?' He asked.
'Oh it was just a catch up' she said smiling at home 'you know we haven't seen each other in five years. Things are bound to change' she said pointing to her wedding ring and belly.
'I suppose so' he said smiling staring down the road.
It was quiet for a moment 'so what he ask about?' Max asked still not taking his eyes off the road.
'Um he just asked how I've been, what I've been up to' she said looking down at her hands 'lots of questions about the origins of you and I getting together' she said looking over at him.
'So he wanted to know how we got together?' He asked raising an eyebrow.
She nodded.
'Did you tell him?' He asked.
'Well yeah I just told him that we had been speaking after he and I broke up and that we just became close after that' she said looking out the window 'he was very confused as to why he hasn't seen me at any of the races though. Especially the ones I have actually attended'
'Well we are very good at keeping a low profile' Max said placing a hand on Saffrons.
She smiled and squeezed his hand.
'So what store are we going to first?' She asked the excited dad to be.
'Well I figure we go to the major baby store. Get the bulk of what we need. Then we see what's left in the list' he smiled turning down into the shopping complex.
'You know I saw this really great idea that we do like a baby registry for things that we need but haven't bought. That way we aren't getting like two of things we already have' she said as Max pulled into a car space outside the store.
'That's a good idea darling. We can also put stuff on there that we do need multiple of like nappies and baby wipes and stuff' He said turning to her shrugging.
'That is a good idea' She said opening her door.
Max quickly hopped out of the car and whipped round to her side to assist her in getting out. He had become very protective of his wife after she had become pregnant. After all, she was considered a high risk pregnancy and he wanted to make sure she was going to have a smooth journey through this time.
He locked the car and they wandered into the giant baby retailer, full of aisle upon aisle of baby clothes, linen, cots, jumpers, strollers, everything you could think of was in this store. It was slightly overwhelming.
'So did he ask any other questions?' Max asked as they wandered down the clothing aisle.
'Huh?' She asked pulling at a onsie feeling the material between her fingers before plucking it off the rack.
'Did he ask any other questions when you were getting coffee?' Max repeated.
'Oh. Um' She said standing still hands on hips trying think 'not that I remember' she said shrugging.
He was asking a lot of questions. Saffron was becoming intrigued.
'Why do you wanna know if he asked so many questions?' She asked staring at him as they slowly walked down the aisle into another.
'I'm just curious' he said shrugging looking around him.
'Huh' she said before waddling off and grabbing something throwing it into the cart.
'Not jealous are we?' She asked smirking.
'No' he quickly fired back with a sheepish look.
'Sure mate' she said laughing before waddling off again.
'I'm not' he whined pushing the cart after her.
They managed to tick off most things on their list that they needed. They paid and then packed the car. The backseat and boot now full to the brim with clothes, change mats, bottles, pumps, clothes, linens, you name it they bought it. The pram was getting delivered tomorrow and they had already ordered the cot and a couple of drawers and bookshelves online from IKEA which were being delivered tomorrow as well.
They would have a full week of setting up the nursery and getting everything sorted. Max had organised for a couple of the boys to come over and help him paint the nursery tomorrow. He promised them beer and pizza if they would come and help. Charles, Lando and Daniel out of the goodness of their hearts agreed that they would come over and help.
Saffron sat on the floor of the spare room where all of the stuff they had bought was stored for the minute whilst the nursery was being prepped. She had grabbed a washing basket and was currently cutting the tags off the clothes, nappies, bibs and linen preparing to wash them before baby arrived.
Max wandered in and stood at the door. He pulled out his phone and took a photo smiling at his wife soon to be mother of his child. His heart was content. He honestly couldn't have imagined anything better than this. She was his world.
'Hey' he said quietly not wanting to startle her.
'Hmmm?' She smiled looking up at him pausing what she was doing.
'So the Monaco Grand Prix is coming up this weekend' he said looking at the floor.
'I know are you excited?' She asked.
'I am I am but I' he said looking at her.
She stared at him confused.
'I was wondering if maybe you wanted to kind of show off this weekend' he said with a hopeful look.
She raised an eyebrow 'what do you mean?' She asked.
'I mean I want you beside me in the paddock. I want to show you off. Just this once' he said coming toward her and resting on his knees.
She frowned 'what happened to our privacy?' She asked.
'Just this once I promise. You're glowing and I want everyone to see how beautiful my wife and mother of my child is' he said smiling grabbing her hands in his.
She looked at him thinking about it for a moment before sighing 'fine' she said looking at his face change from worry to happy 'but only on race day' she pointed.
'Yes yes of course only race day' he said squeezing her hands 'thank you my love. I promise just this once and that's all I ask' he said placing a soft kiss on her lips.
She smiled and shook her hand.
'Okay' he said putting his hands on his hips 'what can I do' he said looking around assessing the bags.
'Well' she said looking around 'you could unpack everything. Start putting stuff away. Like the bathroom stuff. You could start getting that all set up' she said pointing to a group of bags.
'I'm on it' He said grabbing a handful and carting them off to the bathroom.
She smiled shaking her head laughing to herself.
