The baby shower had come and gone. Saffron's family had returned back to Australia and Max had returned back to work after having three weeks off. Saffron was now on her own and heavily pregnant. Max ensured to text her everyday, he facetimed her every morning and every night and he insisted on making sure that he gave her any update that happened after the scare he got last week when he thought you were going into labour but it was actually just Braxton Hicks Contractions.
'Yes Maxy I am fine' She said laughing shaking her head 'I have the race on now I am waiting for it to start' She said smiling looking over at the TV.
She eventually forced him to hang up and shook her head. The camera was currently in the redbull garage and had zoomed in on a very stressed looking Max Verstappen. She texted him and he immediately perked up earning some commentary from the commentators.
She got up from the couch and stood in the kitchen waiting for the kettle to boil. She was about to grab a mug before she felt a pain shoot through her belly. She breathed through it before carrying on her business. This had been happening for about 2 hours now but she shrugged it off thinking nothing of it. Probably just the Braxton Hicks again.
As she made herself a tea she held onto the bench bracing herself for another wave of pain, however this wave was met with a very warm and wet sensation. Her eyes widened and she looked down at her pants that were now soaked.
'no no no' She said to herself panicking 'this can't be happening now' she said hobbling over to grab her phone.
She immediately texted Max.
No response.
She texted again.
No response.
She called.
No answer.
She called again.
No answer.
'This literally cannot be happening' She said as tears started to form in her eyes.
She was met with another wave of pain, this one lasting substantially longer than the others. She grabbed her belly and hunched over in pain. After the contraction had subsided she seized the opportunity to shower and change stopping every few moments to make sure she didn't over do it.
She quickly showered and changed, she grabbed her baby bag and her go bag and gathered them at the front door. She was about to grab her car keys when another wave of pain hit her. She decided it was probably best not for her to drive and that she should probably call an ambulance. Before doing so she wanted to check if there would be absolutely anyone in the area that she could call for assistance first before an ambulance. She grabbed her phone and quickly went through her contacts, she called just about everyone in Max's family to which no one picked up. She got to the last number in her phone and regrettably dialed it.
'Hello?' A Dutch voice answered.
'Jos its Saff' She said squeezing her eyes.
'Saffy' He said cheerfully on the other end of the line.
'I'm going into labour. Are you able to come and get me and drive me to the hospital?' She asked hesitantly.
'Oh my. I'll be there in 20 minutes' He said grabbing his keys and hanging up the phone.
He was the last person that Saffron wanted to have there in her hour of need. Ever since Max had opened up to her about his childhood, she couldn't help but feel a certain sort of resentment towards him. Max loved his Dad, but something about the way he had treated Max in the past made Saffron's blood boil. Of course she would never tell him that or Max, she wanted to keep the peace and at the moment, he was the only help that she was going to be able to get.
