Chan POV

I couldn't believe what Mrs. Seo had done. I knew people were killed around her regularly, and I'd grown immune to feeling anything about it. It was just part of the job, but hurting Han...hurting someone she claimed to love was beyond any justification she could give. Han didn't deserve that.

We had locked her in a room and then transferred her to Jeongin's when we got the chance, so we could try to communicate with her and figure out what to do from behind the safety of the windowed door.

But I couldn't even begin to figure out where to start. For over a week, we had held our boss hostage. Her husband could show up at any point and demand that we all be slaughtered for acting out against her. It was a mess.

Changbin was sitting on the floor opposite the door. I had hoped he'd begin the conversation and take some of that responsibility off of me, but he'd been blubbering all morning. Seungmin sat beside him trying to offer some sort of sympathy.

"Why'd you do it?" I finally asked in a monotone voice. I'd been dreading having to actually interrogate her.

She just sighed from where she sat on the bed. I don't think she'd ever considered that she'd get caught. I wondered what else she'd gotten away with...how many crimes had been committed without our knowing?

"Why?" I asked again, my voice strained this time. Poor Han.

She exhaled loudly and didn't look at me while she spoke. "He needed to be all mine."

I had no idea what that even meant or why it mattered.

"He's still Mr. Hwang's son, too," I reminded her.

"I know," she answered flatly.

"Were you going to kill him, too?" The idea that Han could've been so important that she'd risk decades of tolerating one another just to kill the other leader was shocking to me. Why Han?

"That was the plan," she admitted.

"Your own husband doesn't even know Han exists? How were you going to kill the Hwang leader without him knowing?"

She didn't answer and just stared ahead.

I think it clicked for me faster than everyone else. I turned around, and Seungmin's eyes met mine with the same panic I had in mine. Changbin probably wasn't allowing himself to see the truth for what it was.

"Where's Mr. Seo?" I asked frantically. I tried to recall the last time I'd seen him but it had been weeks.

"He's gone," she shrugged. She looked at me with a devilish smile, "On a business trip."
