This one was requested by Bob762

for context, this takes place after seabound so Nya had merged with the sea. Aiming for some Lava fluff and a slight trip to truma lane O-O. I was asked to write this in Kai's POV so I'll mention it.

"ɴᴏʙᴏᴅʏ ɪꜱ ᴘᴇʀꜰᴇᴄᴛ, ᴡᴇ ᴀʟʟ ʜᴀᴠᴇ ᴏᴜʀ ᴜᴘꜱ ᴀɴᴅ ᴅᴏᴡɴꜱ, ᴛʜᴀᴛ ꜱᴍᴀʟʟ ᴍɪꜱᴛᴀᴋᴇꜱ ᴀɴᴅ ʟᴏᴡ ᴍᴏᴍᴇɴᴛꜱ ᴅᴏɴ'ᴛ ᴅᴇꜰʏ ᴡʜᴏ ᴡᴇ ᴀʀᴇ ᴀɴᴅ ᴡʜᴏ ᴡᴇ ᴀɪᴍ ᴛᴏ ʙᴇ...."

Kai's POV:

It's only been a few months after Nya merged with the sea and I miss her presence so much. I miss her bossing me around, I miss her voice, I miss her upbeat personality. I know she sacrificed herself to save Ninjago but it isn't fair! Maybe they're was another way but no! Nya had to merge!

Kai punched the punching bad in front of him, his frustration growing with every action and his fist finally pierced the outer covering and the sand inside leaked out. Kai took back his fits and saw his knuckles blistered and bruised. He didn't feel the pain, only the dred of loosing Nya so soon.

"Damn it!" Kai kicked the no longer usable punching bag and turned away. He was met with Cole's amber eyes staring at him, his medium onyx hair partially covering his eyes but no doubt his gaze on Kai. "What?" Kai snapped. Cole didn't say anything. Kai walked over to him, his red fits clenched.

"You're hurt" Cole simply said, his expression unclear to Kai.
"Not your problem but thanks" Kai said, his tone on edge.

Without another word Kai walked passed him, Cole stood up and grabbed Kai's wrist gently. Kai wanted to shake it off but somehow Cole's touch on his skin was comforting, slightly easing his pain, mentally and physically. The master of Earth gave Kai a look which made the brunette's heart skip a beat. Kai mumbled questionably, Cole looked away but said, "Wait a second" and ran off inside, leaving Kai blinking with a slight blush on his cheek. A few drops of blood fit the floor and Kai finally realized how badly he had injured himself.

Cole returned with the first-aid kit and motioned Kai to sit beside him. Kai wanted to argue but having an argument with Cole is not going to help anything.
"You don't have to do this" Kai said, not quite meeting the other's eye. Cole didn't answer and continued to dab Kai's knuckles with some disinfectant. Kai squeezed his eyes shut and bit his lip as the twinge of pain hit him. But Cole looking after him was better than nothing.
Cole paused and Kai opened his eyes and met his eyes. But this time the master of fire had no intention of looking away.

"You know that you can talk to me Kai."

Cole said, his tone soft and full of concern towards Kai. The brunette didn't answer, he wanted to talk to Cole but he didn't want to be a burden for Cole too. He's always been by his side and had to deal with his own losses in the past, the worst being his mother's dead. Cole wasn't very open on how he truly felt about it but deep down, Kai new it bothered him and he regretted a lot of things.
Kai did too but Nya's merge had been a big blow for him, he wasn't the same ninja he was before. Kai was sure he might not be the same ever again, it scared him.

"Nya was special to me too. That weird love triangle aside, she was very supportive to me"
Cole said and ran his hand through his hair. Kai bit the inside of his cheek and gave his hands to Cole to finish bandaging them.
Cole wrapped up kai's knuckles gently, whenever Kai flinched he would look up and ask if it was okay. Kai nodded, everytime managing to smile through the hurt he still bottled up inside.

"Cole?"

"Hm?"

"Do you still miss your mom?"

Kai asked. Cole seemed to pause, his amber eyes losing a bit of light. He finished up Kai's bandages and without a word and Kai regretted his words.
Cole sighed and looked up at the Sky, now a warm pastel sunset.

"I did. But after seeing her accomplish so much in Shintaro, I know that she didn't die in vain. I know she didn't regret her life and her son's decision. I'm proud of her and I want to live her legacy"

"I guess you've already grabbed that"

Kai said, a grinning slightly. Cole seemed to light up and he smiled brightly. Kai felt an ton of bricks leave his shoulders, seeing Cole happy was all he needed.

"I really wish that I could've stopped her.... somehow" Kai looked down at his hands.
Before he could stop himself, a streak of tears escaped his eyes and slid down his cheeks, the teardrops falling on his the red stained bandages, partially soaking through.

"Nothing would've changed Kai. We might have elemental powers but he don't have control over everything"

Cole said gently and leaned in and brushed away Kai's tears with his thumb. His touch making Kai's skin grow hot and his shoulder twitch.

"Even if you are the green ninja, something must happen for the greater good, take it from Lloyd"

"But I miss her. Who knows if she's alright? If she might be in trouble.... What if Nya... misses her big brother"

Cole's shoulder brushed against Kai's and his fingers crossed with Kai's softly. "We all miss her and I'm sure she feels the same, no matter she is, she'll never forget you"
Kai smiled and he felt much better.

"Can I ask something from you Cole?"

"yeah?"

"You're always so upbeat. I miss that part of myself, maybe I'll accept it over time but right now thanks a lot for being here with me"

"I wasn't so enthusiastic in the beginning, I'm sure you remember. I also miss that cocky personality of yours. I'll always be right here next to ya, no matter what"

Kai smiled at this and Cole pushed his arms playfully.
Kai bit his lip but didn't hesitate and pulled Cole by his gi and placed a quite kiss on his cheek. He saw ninja's face turn bright as the brunette chuckled.

"That's for making me feel better"

"I like that"
