Twenty Two

"After a long talk" Demetri and I look over at Dale "we want to follow you to Carrington Manor"

Nodding our heads "Alright, get packed up since we'll be gone soon" I go to the pick up truck and wait here as Demetri is in the U Haul. We've never driven to Atlanta before so we don't know what to expect as we head back to Carrington Manor.

In one hour we are heading to Carrington Manor, Rick and his family are with me in the pick up truck. Demetri is in the U Haul behind the humans. "Dani?" Carl asks me "if you don't mind me asking...how old are you?"

"Physically I'm eighteen" I tell them "realistically...I'm nine"

"Years old?!" They exclaim looking at me

"Dhampir age much quicker than human children like hybrid pregnancies" explaining to them as I stop the truck "Rick, we need to switch places. You drive"

"Why?" He asks

"I'm going to use my powers to move these vehicles aside" I explain to him? He nods his head as we switch places. He starts again and I focus on the vehicles moving them out of the way.

"Cool" Carl breathes out as I focus on the vehicles

"Some vampires and Dhampir have powers" I tell them "like for me? I have the ability to manipulate earth—I can also create a mental shield. Not a physical one"

"Are mermaids real?" Lori asks "witches?"

Nodding my head "Every supernatural creature you can think of...we don't normally tell humans but given the circumstances it'll be an exception"

"I think it's cool that you guys exist" Carl tells me and I have us stop.

"Why are we stopping?" Rick asks

"See that truck" pointing to the truck, he nods his head "I am most likely certain it's filled with clean water. Which reminds me" looking at Carl "you bring your swim trunks?"

He nods his head "Why?"

"Carrington Manor has a pool" his eyes light up "so if you, Sophia and the other kids want...it's open to you to play in" looking to his parents "if it's fine with you?"

Nodding their heads "More than alright" Lori tells me

Looking to Rick "let's go get the water"

He smiles "Okay, I'll inform the others"

When we are out, Carl goes to the kids and tells them about the pool as I open the truck and Demetri is by my side helping me pull the jugs of water out. The other humans watch as we put the water in the truck before closing it when we hear something.

All humans hide as Demetri picks me up and jumps us up to the top of the truck. We watch from above as this herd of walkers comes by. Demetri runs to grab Sophia when two walkers notice her, he rushes her back to me and I cover her mouth as the walkers walk into the forest.

After some time, Carol yells "Sophia!"

"Mom!" She looks over to us and Demetri helps Sophia down while Carol runs to her daughter and Sophia runs to her.

Looking over at Demetri "I'll move the cars, you pack up the water and if anyone wants to get anything"

"This is a graveyard" we look over at Lori who looks around "we...we'll be grave robbers and I don't know how I feel about this"

"Doesn't matter" they look at me "if we get some things or someone else, the people who owned this stuff is dead now" we hear a crash and something break "what was that?" Seeing smoke come from the RV "maybe we get you a new RV?"

"Maybe" Dale nods his head agreeing

Looking at Demetri, he rolls his eyes before looking around "I'll get you the RV Dale, but for now find what you need since who knows when that herd will be back"

"Come on guys" waving my hand as I go forward and begin to move vehicles out of the way. After a few minutes, I help Lori and Carol with finding stuff "find anything?"

"Yeah" they nod their heads

"Do you miss it?" Lori asks me after some time "your child hood I mean? You grew up so fast..."

"Yeah" nodding my head "I never got the chance to make friends my own age...plus all the things kids get to do like in school with field days or field trips? It would have been nice to experience that kind of stuff" looking over at Carol as she holds up a red blouse "that's pretty"

"Ed" she shakes her head "never let me wear stuff like this" Demetri got Ed killed by having a Walker kill him, he's the one human that died. The others like Morales are coming with but a few others aren't. The others who  aren't coming with are going to find their families or go to the CDC in Atlanta "we're going to need clothes" I then just realized "we can't go down this highway, hey guys!" They look my way "we can't go that way. Not with that hers of walkers that came by"

"She's right" Shane agrees with me "as much as I hate agreeing with her, we go by that herd who knows what could happen"

We see Demetri come over with this luxury RV that Dale whistles "Wow" Demetri gets out and goes over.

"Only thing that I could find that is practical and full of gas that wasn't broken or pillaged into" Demetri tells him as we look at the big black with some white stripes RV.

"No" Dale shakes his head "this is perfect, thank you"

Demetri looks my way "we're going another route, with how those walkers moved in a herd? We're not risking it"

"Good call" he nods his head

After some time, we drive a different way to Carrington Manor and it takes a few hours. Going past the gate, we head inside and I see Felix outside pacing around when we arrive.

Getting out of the truck, Felix is instantly before me pressing his lips to mine as my back is against the truck. "Don't look" I hear people say

Pulling away, Felix demands "Where the hell were you? Do you understand how worried I was? Next time I'm coming with you, I'm not risking losing you"

Placing my hand on his cheek "Demetri and I...we made some friends"

Felix stares at me before putting his face in my neck, rubbing his back I hear Demetri explain "That's her soulmate, because of how long we were gone Felix's inner protective and possessive instincts took over and now he needs to be by Dani. Know that she's safe in his arms"

"I'm alright" whispering to Felix "I'm right here"
