Star Light: Power Within (Sonic Fanfiction)

Chapter one

A small wolf sat on his bed, blue stars scattered along the purple bed spread. Aster sighed quietly as he held his knees against his chest, ears pinned down onto his head as he breathed slowly. His eyes slowly looked around his room while he tightened his grip on a pillow he held between his body.

The room had a large window that let the sunlight shine down onto the bed, there were shelves with small trinkets on them as they hung off the walls. A purple carpet was on the floor in front of Aster's dresser, even though it was just full of socks and shorts, it was mainly there to put things on. 

A small teddy bear sat there, slanted to the side as it's eyes seemed to stare into Aster's soul menacingly. The gray wolf pup gulped and his ears pressed against his head once more before snapping upwards. "ASTER!!" Tails shouted from downstairs and Aster looked towards his door. "COMING!!"

Within a second, the wolf jumped off of his bed, leaving the pillow in the middle as he ran out of the room. Shutting the door quickly with a sudden slam, the bear fell to the ground, it's beady eyes facing the door eerily. 

Aster ran through the hallway and tripped on the last step on the set of stairs into the living room. "Woah!" Aster yelled as he fell onto his butt. The wolf groaned and rubbed his head, looking around the living room once his eyes focused.

He pushed himself off the ground and leaned over the couch. There was a red couch in the middle of the room and a small TV with a table right by it in a lowered area from the rest so you had to take a step down. The boys' rooms were up a flight of stairs behind the couch section and there was a kitchen off to the side.

A small coaster was on the table with some mint tea, probably Tails' doing. Other than that there wasn't really anything of notice, Sonic was no where to been seen either. "Huh..." Aster said quietly to himself before turning his head towards the stairs to get to Tails' workshop.

Lots of stairs... The pup thought to himself before walking over and this time slowly going down, taking time with each step out of worry he'd fall again. He turned the corner and saw Tails sitting by his desk as he seemed to tinker with something carefully.

Aster held onto the wall and peaked his head out from behind it with a confused expression, ears twitching as he watched Tails for a moment. The wolf jumped down, his bare feet hitting the dirt since he didn't have any shoes on. 

Tails' ears perked up and his eyes shot open wide at the sound, quickly spinning his chair to face Aster. "Oh, just you." The twin tailed fox said with a nervous smile and rubbed the back of his neck. Aster's eyes quickly widened in embarrassment, "I-I'm sorry, I didn't mean to startle you." he quickly looked down and rubbed his arm.

"You're fine." Tails said reassuringly, "I was just... Uhh..." he paused for a moment, his eyes going to whatever he was working on before snapping back to reality, "Distracted!! Yeah!! Distracted." Aster cocked his head to the side and Tails jumped down from his chair. 

The gray wolf pup looked at him, a bit confused by what he had said but didn't know what to make of it. "So why did you call me down here?" He asked bluntly. "We were going to go to the zoo, remember?" Tails said with a smile, Aster's eyes snapping open, "Sonic and the others already left and you were still in your room so I decided to let them go ahead while I worked on a project."

A nervous chuckle went out the small wolf's mouth as he slouched down slightly to make him smaller. "Right.... Totally didn't forget about that." Aster gulped slightly and started to back up, "I'm just going to go grab my shoes and we can go!" Aster said nervously before starting to run up the stairs.

"Wait!" Tails quickly grabbed onto the other's arm, stopping him on as he stood on the first step with a confused expression but didn't protest. "I-uh.." Tails trailed off and looked off to the side, gaining some confidence and locking eyes with Aster, "Do you know what day it is?"

Aster stared at him in shock and confusion, looking at a calendar above Tails' desk. "Uhh... February 14th?" Why in the world would he need to ask me that? Aster thought. Tails remained silent for a moment before chuckling nervously, a faint blush on his cheeks. "Right.... Thanks...."

The two just stared at each other for a good minute before Tails realized he was still holding onto Aster's arm and quickly let go, taking a few steps back. "So-uh, you go get ready and I'll just-" Tails kept walking back as he spoke, placing his hand on his work bench to look cool but it wound up slipping and he stubbled. "I'LL- I'll just be here!!" The fox studdered, rubbing his wrist and turning his back to the wolf pup, "No rush!!" 

The pup nodded with a blank look on his face and ran up the stairs and out of sight. A few moments passed once again with Tails just staring at the staircase, something inside him longing for Aster to come back. "AGH!! I'm such an idiot!!" He roared in frustration, "Of course he doesn't know what Valentine's day is!!"

Tails sighed in defeat and sat down, fiddling with a wrench. He gently picked up a picture frame, it was a deep, night sky blue and had purple stars poking out in a 3D affect. The small fox stared deeply at it, his gaze soft and loving. Inside was a photograph of him and Aster at the skating rink, laughing... Together...

His hand slowly reached for a small button on the side and clicked it, the stars lighting up on the picture frame as Tails kept staring at Aster's smile in the picture. Tails slowly snapped out of his lovey-dovey trance and groaned, rolling his eyes. "I probably look so creepy right now." He said to himself annoyedly.

A thought crossed his mind, eyes slightly getting wider before the yellow fox stuffed the gift in one of his back pack. "I'll give it to him today and confess! Finally!" Tails grinned proudly and chuckled to himself, "Finally~!" he said in a sing song voice as Aster ran back down the stairs with his shoes on. "I'm ready!" The pup said calmly, making his way to the bottom of the steps. "Great! Now come on, let's go!!" Tails responded and grabbed Aster's hand gently, the two of the running out of the garage.
