VIII.

A buzzing noise hummed near my ear. I shook my head and swatted it, but the buzzing didn't stop. I opened my eyes to look around my room, except, it wasn't my room. It was cold and hard and gray. I sat up and found Zoro's cloak where my head was resting, and then I remembered, we had left the kingdom, searching for temporary shelter.
I looked around the cave again, I was alone. No Pollux, no Zoro, no anything.
Everything started to feel hot and stuffy, I could feel my heart beating faster, and suddenly I was aware of my breaths coming short. They left me. I was alone.
"What are you on about now, Prince?" A voice grumbled, and I looked up.
"Pollux!" I cried, "I thought you weren't going to find me."
"Dear Fanden, Satan, what are you on about? You must stop being such a manchild."
"I'm not." I mumbled, looking away.
"What a lie! Now, where's the boyfriend?"
"He's not my boyfriend!" I said, looking around the area again, hoping to see Zoro standing there. But, he wasn't.
     "Where is he?"
      I frowned, "Not here?"
"Where is he, Satan?" She asked again.
     "I don't know."
"You can't lie to me," She said and a tone of annoyance was highly audible.
     "I'm not! He left me."
Disbelief was written all over her face, "So, then, your best friend abandoned you? Your beloved advisor, therapist, absconded from us?"
"I guess so." I said with a crack in my voice.
"I doubt he'd leave without warning."
     I frowned, "I do too."
"Well, then it's likely something happened to the scoundrel."
"Something happened to Zoro?" I gasped.
She made a mhmm sound like one would do when an incompetent being who finally realized something so obvious a toddler would have found out before them..
"How clever you are, really. Has it not come to mind that someone may have taken him?"
"Who would bother so much as to take him?"
     "Whoever we're running from."
"Wait. Who are we running from, again?" I may not be the brightest.
She made a gesture, like a shrug, but I think she probably knew.
"The white winged," she said simply, then paused. "Also, you have Zoro's cloak. I doubt he'd lend one his things and vanish."
"Maybe he just wanted to give me something to remember him by?"
She raised an eyebrow. "Zoro? If he ever seems that sentimental to you, Prince, he's making another attempt at humor. He is not 'gushy'. If your friend had any desire to leave, he wouldn't have looked back."
"Oh." I responded, feeling hurt. Even if it was true.
She shrugged and held out a rat by its bare tail, "Eat, for we will be traveling. You'll need the energy."
I made a face and looked down at the hanging corpse, "I'd rather starve."
"Alas, that wouldn't be good for my paycheck." She shook her head. "In that case, gather your belongings. We are leaving whether the prissy prince has breakfast or not."
I picked up Zoro's cloak off the ground and a golden horn, well what I think was a horn, fell from it, making a hard clashing sound. I grimaced at the noise.
I frowned, "Where... did this come from?" I picked it up with my free hand and suddenly there was a painful pulsing through my arm to my head. I dropped it. Another loud crash.
"Dear Fanden, Satan! What is wrong with you?" Pollux grumbled.
I looked at her and down at my hand, it was black. I touched it and it hissed. I touched it again, and there was another hiss and a striking amount of pain.
"Something's not right." I said, still looking down at my hand.
"I know that. Central Hell's been raided, dipshit."
"No, I meant, something's not right with my hand!" I said, before I kicked the horn towards Pollux.
She snatched it and walked towards me, "Not right with your hand?"
"Just look!" I said as I held my arm out to show her.
She made a "Hm." as she examined the darkened hand.
     "You've been burnt, Prince."
"How does a demon get burnt?" I frowned.
     "Sorcery, I'd say."
I rolled my eyes at her, "Demons are sorcery."
"Sorcery nonetheless. What did you do?"
"I touched that horn." I pointed to the golden horn she had picked up after I kicked it.
     "It's not burning me."
"You're demonized!" I whined, as if it'd do something.
     "No shit, Sherlock!" she chided.
