Chapter 29: Both Sides of the Story

(NIALL'S POINT OF VIEW)

"Niall.... We need to break up."

Those five words shattered me.

At that exact moment, my heart split into two and my head became dizzy. Blood stopped rushing through my veins for a moment. Everything was completely wrong that moment in time.

Even the world wasn't happy with what just happened. I heard thunder clap and lightning strike. Then rain started pouring. The sunny beautiful day just disappeared.

Instead of saying another word, we stood there in the rain. Avery was still staring at me, waiting for my reaction, and all I did was sprint away from her.

Thunder and lightning clapped again and I sprinted on.

I could hear Avery off in the distance calling my name and for me to come back. I couldn't face her right now. Right now, I needed to be alone.

I ran down the block and around a few corners and into the next door I passed. It was our hotel. I sprinted back out into the pouring rain and down the block. The next restaurant I saw, I walked into.

There was a lady who came over and seated me and took my order. Little did I know, I was practically starving. Surprise, surprise.

I ate everything on the plate and then got a black coffee. I needed it.

Now that my stomach was satisfied, I could think over what had happened.

Avery had broken up with me for some reason. The reason was that she didn't want us sleeping together to change things. But that couldn't be the only thing behind this.. There had to be another reason.

I put a couple bills on the table and walked back out into the pouring rain. I threw my hood up. I had to figure this out...

I raced down the sidewalk again and into the doors of our hotel. Instead of taking the elevator I flew through the door to the stairs and jogged up them, two at a time.

Finally reaching the eleventh floor, I raced down the hall to the suites. I turned to the very familiar room door and knocked. I didn't have a key.

The door opened, ever so slowly, and there stood Avery.

My lover, who broke my heart.

***

(AVERY'S POINT OF VIEW)

I looked deep into his crystal, blue eyes and they broke into a thousand tiny pieces. What had I done?

This was for both of us, right?

He looked all around me and I just stood there, staring into his eyes. They started to turn dark and scared, then mad. He didn't look upset, just confused. Then he took off.

I stood there for a split second, dumbfounded. What was he doing? Then I called after him.

"Niall?! Where are you going?!" I knew it was useless, but I had to try.

During the course of all of this, rain was pouring down. The beautiful day it was had turned to darkness. And it was all my fault. The world was mad at me.

I decided I needed to get out of this rain, so I flagged down a cab. I was already drenched.

It took me back to our hotel and I raced inside. I didn't know how long Niall would be running around town, but I had a little bit of time. I went up to the room I shared with Amanda and took a bath.

We had to talk this out. I needed to explain myself. I didn't know if he would listen, but I needed to pour everything out. I just had to.

I got out and dressed myself in sweats and let my hair air-dry. I had spent almost an hour in the bathroom. Had Niall been back yet?

I walked over to my bed and checked my phone. No texts, no calls, no twitter mentions, not anything.

At that moment, I heard a knock on my door. Niall?

I ran over to it and looked through the peep-hole. To my wondering eyes, it was Niall.

I turned the handle and opened it to reveal a very wet person in front of me. I cleared my throat and gestured him in. He declined.

I stood there, confused and he just looked anywhere but my eyes.

"Avery. I know you did what you did for a good reason. But I want you to explain your reason." His face was serious and not moving. His hands were stuffed into his pockets and he stood there, tall and gorgeous.

"I-I.. I just--" I stopped myself there. Why had I done what I did? I didn't know myself.

He stood there, waiting for an answer. But I didn't have one.

"Niall, I don't have an answer for you. I had a reason to break up with you, I did, but it doesn't make much sense now. I know you probably are pissed off at me. You have a right to be. But I think for the rest of the day we need to just be alone. I don't even want to talk to Amanda. Okay? I'll see you.. When I see you." With that said, I closed the door without letting him say another word.
