Trigger Warning: Mentions Of Lost Pregnancy

"Why?", Jensen thinks, sitting on the bed next to Harmony, his head on his hands. She is still sleeping, thanks to whatever the physician had given her, and Jensen just wishes that she wouldn't have to wake up to the brutal reality that they were now facing.

He had known about the rebel threat for a couple years now, having dispatched his spies to find and apprehend them, and bring peace to the Kingdom once more. However, as if the rebels knew what he had done, they had gone underground, making it hard for him to end this before it got out of hand.

Now, they had become brazen and attacked his family in his own home. Jensen had to give it to his own men, they had fought with everything they had, despite being outnumbered. Once word got back to him and he made it to the courtyard, the fight was well underway and all he could do was back his men up.

He hadn't even realized that Harmony was still there until Jared called him over. He still didn't know how it happened or how Harmony got caught in the middle of it all, that will have to wait until Harmony is better. For now, he will keep watch over her until she awakes and he has to tell her that their child is gone. "Why?".

Harmony stirs next to him, slowly opening her eyes, Jensen already holding her hand so she knows she's not alone. She looks up at him and he gives her a small, sad smile when he sees her beautiful eyes open.

-"Sweetheart?"

-"Hi."

-"How are you feeling? Do you want me to get the physician?"

-"No, I'm just sore. Is everyone okay?" - She tries sitting up, but Jensen holds her shoulder down, keeping her laying on the bed.

-"There are a few injuries, but nothing serious."

-"And the baby? Is the baby okay?"

-"I'm sorry, sweetheart."

Harmony knows exactly what that means. Their baby, their unborn child, is gone. As hard as Harmony could try, she would never be able to stop the tears that began falling down her cheeks, as sobs raked through her body.

There was nothing that Jensen wanted more in that moment than to be able to take the pain that Harmony was feeling away. He holds her close to him, feeling her body shaking as she sobs in his arms.

-"It's my fault. I should've been faster in getting out of there." - She sobs against his chest.

-"No, sweetheart, it's not. Don't say that. None of this is your fault. If you want to blame someone, blame me. I was the one who wasn't there to protect you in the first place."

Harmony doesn't say anything else. It is killing Jensen knowing that Harmony blames herself for what happened. He doesn't know exactly what happened, but he knows his wife. She wouldn't put herself in a situation where either she or anyone that she cares about would be in danger.

Jensen continues holding Harmony, caressing her hair and whispering comforting words, until he hears her breathing even out. He knows she has fallen back to sleep and it doesn't take long before he falls asleep as well, praying that things will get better.

The next morning, Harmony wakes up alone. Well, not entirely. She can hear that one of the servants is there, poking the fire in the fireplace of the living area, and making sure that everything is ready for when she wakes up. Harmony lays in bed, thinking back on the day before, and tears fill her eyes when she remembers what Jensen had said.

She still couldn't quite believe that fate would be that cruel to her, not after everything she went through in her life. To have her child taken away from her in that way was beyond cruel. She hears movement and low voices coming from the living area beyond her bedroom doors.
