Over the last few weeks, both sisters have been grieving their father's death, with Elise grieving the loss of another parent, someone who she still loved despite it all, and Harmony grieving the hurt and pain he had put her and Elise through, letting go of the anger and hatred she still held for the man.
Slowly, things have been returning to normal. Well, as normal as they can be. Harmony has been helping Elise get settled in Court, with the help of Justice, who has decided to make Elise her best friend and help her with anything she might need, making for some very interesting conversations at the dinner table.
It is the middle of the morning, and Harmony is sitting in her chambers with Donna having tea. Over the last week or so, she had to cut back on official meetings, since she hasn't been feeling very well. Believing it to be due to stress, the physician made sure she knew she needed to take it easy and stay away from stressful situations as much as possible.
-"How has Elise been coping with your father's death?" - Donna asks, sipping on her tea.
-"Better than I had expected, to be honest. I think that's greatly due to Justice."
-"What do you mean?"
-"Ever since the execution, Justice and Elise have been inseparable. I mean, they already were before, but even more so now. Wherever one is, so is the other, and I've noticed that Justice has really been helping Elise get settled in Court, in a way I can't. Honestly, I couldn't be more grateful."
-"That's good, for the both of them. Now they have someone their own age to talk to and spend time with. And how are you?"
-"I'm fine."
-"Harmony, it's just the two of us here. You can be honest." - Donna sees Harmony sighing.
-"I had hoped that my father would at least show some remorse for what he had done to Elise, even if it was fake, for Elise's sake. I didn't want her to be hurt again by him and yet..."
-"Elise is strong, much like her sister, and now she has people around her who love her and who will take care of her, as well as keep her safe."
-"I know. But I also know just how much Elise loved our father. I mean, the man has always hated the fact that he only had daughters, and that he had felt disrespected when I married Jensen, but to go as far as punishing Elise for something that was beyond her control... I never thought he would go that far. And even though he did all that, she still loved him."
-"She loved him because he was her father, but she also knew that what he did was wrong. That's why she stood by you when you made the decision to punish him for what he had done. Harmony, for some men, having daughters is a curse and they value a son's life a whole lot more."
"Ever since Jensen became King, he has tried to change that mentality, but, unfortunately, that's not something that can be changed overnight, and he has been met with a lot of push-back from the other Lords. And yet, he is not ready to give up on it."
"Besides, I believe you are a very good example of why you should never underestimate a woman's resolve or power, and, whether you meant it or not, it has sent a powerful message throughout the Kingdom that daughters as just as capable of powerful things as sons are."
-"Thank you, but I wish Elise was born after that happened. That way she wouldn't have had to go through what she did." - Harmony smiles sadly.
-"What Elise went through will make her stronger, the same way what you went through made you stronger."
-"I didn't really had a choice. If I hadn't, I would've been eaten alive or I would wallow in self-pity, and I honestly didn't feel like doing either." - Harmony says, making Donna chuckle.
-"I still remember when you found your strength back and threatened Lady Teagan that you would place her head on a pike if she didn't leave."
-"I'll tell you the same thing I told Jared that day. Just because I'm usually a very calm and collected woman, it doesn't mean I won't strike down anyone that tries to hurt my family in any way."
-"Well, that became pretty clear when you decided to go and rescue Elise all by yourself. Granted, you got kidnapped in the process, but still..."
-"I admit that that wasn't my best plan yet, but I got the job done nonetheless." - Harmony chuckles.
-"True, and even though that happened, you still managed to stay strong and composed through it all."
-"I decided that if I was gonna die, I was gonna die with my head held high."
-"And that is one of the many reasons why I am so proud to have you as my son's wife and our Queen." - Donna smiles softly at her.
-"Thank you. I hope I can continue to make you proud."
Harmony smiles, and takes a sip of her tea. It is in moments like this, this intimate moments with no one else around, where she knows that she and Elise are truly not alone anymore.
