Heather:
BREEP
BREEP
BREEP
BRE-I slammed my hand against my alarm clock. I got out of bed, took a shower, and went to the kitchen to make breakfast. I had a bagel with orange juice.
I was so tired. I was tired because I barely slept last night, and I was tired of something else but I didn't even know what it was.
After I was done eating, I went back to my room to get ready. I put on my wine-red top, green cargo shorts, and matching high-heeled wedges. I brushed my hair, making sure to take all the knots out.
I grabbed all my stuff for today and glanced at my schedule. AP Global, Dance, Calculus, Forensic Science, Lunch, P.E, and Physics. I can deal with those classes. I'm pretty sure Noah, Courtney, and Izzy also have most of my classes with me.
I overheard Leshawna and Lindsay talking in the kitchen. Leshawna and I weren't great friends during freshman year and we were constantly at each other's throats. But, during sophomore year, we started to grow closer to each other and now she's one of my closest friends.
Lindsay was talking about Tyler and Leshawna was talking about Harold. "What are you two talking about?" I asked them walking into the kitchen. "The boys we might bring to the dance next month," Leshawna answered.
"What dance?" I asked again. "C'mon Heath, you're usually the first to know about this kinda stuff. The homecoming dance. So, are you gonna go with Alejandro?" Leshawna told me. "If he asks me," I responded.
"Oh, we should all go dress shopping together with all the girls and Noah! That would be so much fun!" Lindsay said happily. "Yeah, we should Linds. Anyway, I gotta go. See you guys later," I replied grabbing my stuff for gym and dance and walking out.
While I was walking down the hall, I crashed into Noah who was reading a book per usual. "Hey watch it, nerd—oh, it's you," I said brushing myself off. "Good morning to you too Heather," He replied sarcastically. I rolled my eyes and started to walk away but Noah grabbed my arm.
"What's wrong?" He asked genuinely concerned. "Nothing," I said sharply. "You can tell me. I won't say anything, I swear," Noah reassured me raising his right hand. "Walk with me?" I asked in the mix of a statement and question. "Sure," He blankly responded.
I started telling him everything I felt, "So, I feel like everyone is constantly annoyed by me, so I'm pushing them away before they can push me away. I feel like sometimes I'm just being mean without realizing it and everyone is gonna leave me soon just like they did in freshman year. I feel like Alejandro doesn't love me anymore and he's just gonna leave me for someone better. And I just don't know what to do, and you probably think I'm just a baby for all this complaining. I know you have it much worse than I do, and you have actual problems, and you—"
Noah stopped me from continuing my venting by saying, "Okay, I'm stopping you right there. My life may be extremely shitty, but that doesn't mean other people aren't allowed to have problems. Everyone is allowed to feel upset and annoyed. You're not a baby for feeling emotions. And if you think that everyone's gonna leave you, you're wrong, because you have me. All of your friends love you, Heather. Alejandro never stopped talking about how amazing you are. My life might be horrible, but I'm still here for you."
I teared up a bit and hugged him. "You are an amazing friend, Noah. Thank you," I said nearly crying. "Yeah, whatever. Let's get to Global" He responded nonchalantly.
As much as Noah liked to hide it, he was nice. Too bad his so-called 'family' wrecked most of that for him.
His parents put so much pressure on him to be perfect. The golden child, the child that every other parent would be envious of. They practically manipulated Noah's mind into thinking that he HAD to be successful. He HAD to be his parent's dream. He NEEDED to just be perfect. Noah's mindset after that was if he messed up once, that he would lose lose everything he worked for, and if that happened, where was his usefulness then? His parents only believed that Noah was useful for his perfect academics, his flawless ability to do anything without effort, and the fact that he could make every parent that ever met him wish their child was like Noah. They signed his fate as the golden, child prodigy. Noah may have hated his parents, but if there's one thing he'll never admit, it's that he needs that approval, and he would do anything to keep it.
