There Wasn't any Better News to Give?

Noah:

Homecoming was amazing. I kissed Cody, Heather won homecoming queen, and best of all, EVERYONE HATES DUNCAN!

I am so glad my family isn't here because they are SO homophobic. I never really told them that I was gay because I knew they wouldn't have the best reaction. So I guess it's gonna be kinda awkward if they find out I have a boyfriend.

While I was getting dressed, I got a phone call from Courtney.

N: Hey, Court
C: Hey, Noah.
N: What's up?
C: There's an assembly in an hour in the auditorium.
N: Why?
C: Headmaster Mclean emailed everyone. He said he had an announcement.
N: Okay, see you later.
C: See ya.

I walked into the kitchen and made myself a coffee. Justin and Cody walked in also. "Morning, Noah," Justin said. "Morning," I mumbled. Cody hugged me and kissed me on the cheek. "Good morning, Noah!" Cody chirped. "Good morning, Cody," I responded happily.

"Get ready, we have an assembly in an hour," I told them. "For what?" Cody asked. "Mr. Mclean said he had an announcement," I shrugged.

"Alrighty. Give me five minutes," Cody told me. "I'll be in Court's dorm with Gwen and Bridgette. I'm not gonna wait 45 minutes for Mr. Male Model here," I said sarcastically. "Whatevs. See you later," Cody responded. "Bye, Gap,"

I went next door and knocked on Courtney's dorm. Courtney opened it with a cup of tea in her hands.

"Hola. Can I wait here for a while? Justin's gonna take forever," I asked. "Sure. I'll make you a coffee," Courtney answered. "You are awesome," I said gratefully. "I know," Courtney responded.

"What do you think this stupid assembly is about?" I asked. "Probably telling us to not slack off on our last years," Courtney answered.

I heard a knock on the door and Courtney went to go and open it. Cody was standing outside with Justin.

"Dudes, c'mon, we're gonna be late," Justin complained. "Alright. let me just get Gwen and Bridge," Courtney said.

I went to the kitchen and poured the rest of my coffee into a thermos. "You still have my Stanley from this summer ya know," Courtney told me. "You're so preppy," I sarcastically retorted. "If someone kills you, it will be me," Courtney said punching my arm lightly. "You would kill your own best friend. I'm hurt," I jokingly responded."Whatever, let's go," Courtney said rolling her eyes.

We walked to the auditorium and sat down in the back. It was me, Courtney, Cody, Izzy, Eva, and Gwen. Everyone was talking super loudly. I saw Dean Hatchet walk across the stage and stand in front of the microphone.

I covered my ears and waited for him to start screaming. Dean Hatchet took a deep breath and started shouting into the microphone, "EVERYONE SHUT UP OR YOU HAVE DETENTION!" The entire auditorium went silent after that. Headmaster Mclean started to walk to where Dean Hatchet was talking.

"Good morning students," He started saying, "I hope you all had a great homecoming dance last night!" Cody and I glanced at each other and started blushing.

"Now I'm sure you all remember, but for our new students and our freshman, the week after homecoming, we invite all of your parents to the school to see what you've been working on during your first quarter here," Headmaster Mclean finished saying.

I accidentally spit out the coffee I was drinking. "Kill me," I mumbled softly, leaning my head on Cody's shoulder.

"This. Is. A. Disaster," I stated as I was pacing Courtney's dorm. "What's so bad about it? I mean, yeah your parents suck, but they can't be that bad. Can they?" Cody asked looking around the room.

"CODY, THEY ARE HOMOPHOBIC!" I yelled. "Oh shit," Cody said. "And if they find out that you and Cody are dating," Courtney started saying. "THEY'RE GONNA KILL ME AND PROBABLY YOU TOO!" I finished.

"But why do you give a shit about what your parents think?" Eva asked. I stopped pacing and gave her a look of annoyance and confusion. "Oh yeah, you kinda need to," Eva answered herself.

"Noah just take a deep breath. Getting stressed out about this won't help," Cody said as I continued to pace back and forth, spiraling into my thoughts.

"This isn't good. And I can't ask Headmaster Mclean to not invite them. I know they're gonna come to visit their perfect child prodigy," I mumbled quickly.

The room was silent till my phone started ringing. Courtney glanced at the phone and her eyes went wide. "It's your mom," She said passing me the phone. I slid the answer button and held the phone to my ear.

"Hey, Mom. How are you?" I said softly. "Hello dear, I'm doing fine. How are you?" My mom responded. "I'm good. Why are you calling?" I asked. "I need a reason to call my kid?" She countered.

"No, it's just that you never really call me," I said more sarcastically than I had meant. "I don't appreciate your tone, Noah," She told me. I could feel her glare through the phone. "I'm sorry," I apologized quietly. "Don't apologize. Just don't let it happen again," She scolded me. "Yes, Mom," I responded.

"Anyways, I wanted to let you know that your father and I are coming to your school this week," She said. "Great, I'll see you guys soon then," I responded.

"Yep, I love you, Noah," She told me. "I love you too Mom," I said. "Bye, Noah," She replied. "Bye Mom. Oh wait, can you—" I got cut off by the call ending.

I sat down on the floor and brought my knees to my chest. "So, what'd she say," Cody asked. "She and my dad are coming this week," I groaned. "They're gonna kill us," Cody said, hugging me. "Indeed they are," I sighed, leaning on his shoulder.

"Are your parents coming, Gap?" I asked. "No, they have another business trip," Cody answered. "That sucks," Courtney said. "Yeah," Cody responded. "Do you guys wanna play Mario Kart?" Gwen asked. We all nodded and got the controllers.

I played for a while with Courtney, Izzy, and Eva (I was winning). Cody was playing around with my hair, Gwen was sketching Courtney, and Bridgette was cheering Courtney on (despite Courtney being in last place).

I know why, but I was so stressed out. I don't want to see my parents. At least I have Courtney, Izzy, Eva, and Cody to help me.

Who am I kidding? I'm fucked.
