The Visit

Noah:

I was so stressed out today.

Why?

My parents are coming to visit today and I have to make it seem like I've cured a global pandemic and achieved world peace in a month.

I have to be a stage manager, and a physics tutor, and I have to get my job as an office monitor for when the secretary is on their lunch break.

So here I am, power walking down the halls, trying to get everywhere before 8:00.

I was walking to the auditorium to talk to Ms. O'Halloran(the drama teacher). She was sitting on the stage shuffling through papers.

"Good morning, Noah. How can I help you today? Do you wanna be stage manager this year again?" She asked me. "Yep, if that's possible," I answered. "Of course. Tryouts are this Thursday at 2:50," Ms. O'Halloran said. "I'll be there. Thank you," I responded bolting out of the auditorium to my physics teacher's room.

Mrs. Ellody was at her desk grading tests. "Good morning Mrs. Ellody," I said. "Good morning, Noah. How can I help you today?" She asked. "I was wondering if you needed anyone to help tutor kids in physics," I answered.

"Actually, yes. Duncan is struggling and since you've always been so good in this class, I was going to ask you. Would you be able to help him?" Mrs. Ellody asked me. I mentally rolled my eyes at the mention of Duncan but still managed to seem happy. "Of course. Every Friday at 3 works for me," I answered. "Perfect! I'll let Duncan know. Thank you so much, Noah," She said. "Anytime. Have a good day," I responded walking out.

Two down, one more to go.

I sprinted to the empty office. I looked at the clock which read 7:55.

Fuck.

I got a call from Courtney and answered it.

C: Dude, where the fuck are you?
N: I'm going. I had to go around the entire school.
C: Get to the auditorium. This whole thing starts in 3 minutes.
N: Yeah, I'm going.
C: Bye.
N: Cya

I started running towards the auditorium, and with my luck, the meeting started already. Thankfully, Courtney was sitting in the back with Gwen and Cody so I just snuck into a seat.

"Your hair is a wreck," Courtney laughed. "Do you have a mirror?" I snapped. "I have one," Gwen said, passing me a compact mirror. I tried smoothing out my hair so I looked somewhat okay.

Headmaster Mclean finally finished talking and everyone got up to see their parents. They all looked so excited to their families and I was so desperate to get away from mine.

I started walking towards my parents and saw my mom with a dissatisfied look on her face.

"Hi, Mom. Hi, Dad. How is everything?" I asked softly. "Why were you late Noah?" My mom countered me. "I had to speak to a teacher," I said looking down.

"About what?" My mom asked again. "She needed someone to help tutor kids and since I'm one of her best students, she asked me to help," I explained.

"Why are you helping other people, Noah? You know you should only be worried about yourself right now," My dad lectured.

WHY COULDN'T THEY JUST ANSWER MY FUCKING QUESTION ON HOW LIFE IS GOING FOR THEM?

"I am helping myself. It looks good on college applications," I said. "Good job Noah, using other people's failures to broaden your success," My dad praised.

What in the actual fuck is wrong with my family?

"What have you done to your hair?" My mom asked. "Nothing," I responded. "Clearly. It looks horrible," My mom criticized. My eye twitched and I looked at the floor.

"But never mind that. What have you been up to?" My mom kept asking. "I'm the stage manager for the school play," I said. "That's it?" She responded disappointed.

"Well I have only been here for a month," I snapped. Bad move. "I don't like your snarky attitude, Noah," My mom said. "I'm sorry," I mumbled softly.

"Ah, Mr and Mrs Sterecera, I've been looking for you two. Your son is Noah right?" I heard Headmaster Mclean call out from behind us. "That's correct. How may we help you?" My mom answered. "I just wanted to talk to you about Noah. If that's alright with you two," Headmaster Mclean said. "Of course," My mom responded.

"I'll be in my dorm, Mom. It's room 425," I told my parents as I walked out of the auditorium.

I walked down the hallway to the dorms. I think I might die this week.

I went into my dorm and slammed the door and started screaming. "Your folks giving you a hard time as well?" I heard someone ask. I looked up and saw everyone in my dorm. "Tell me about it. All I did was ask how everything's going and my mom started criticizing everything I've done," I groaned.

"Real. All I did was say 'Hi' and my dad gave me a lecture about formality," Courtney said. "Why is this week the worst week of the year?" Heather asked. "Because this is the week that we're forced to be with our parents," Alejandro answered.

"Do you guys just wanna play video games so we can avoid our parents?" Cody offered. We all nodded our heads in agreement.

We turned on the TV and started to play Mario Kart. I was lying on Cody's lap and he was playing with my hair. Courtney was sitting on the floor with Gwen. Heather was sitting next to Alejandro on the sofa. Izzy and Eva were also on the floor and Trent and Justin were taking pictures with Sierra.

Time Skip :)

We played Mario Kart for about an hour when we heard a knock on the door. We paused the game and looked at the door.

"IT'S OPEN!" Cody shouted. The person knocked again. "THE DOOR IS UNLOCKED!" Justin called out. Same knock. "OH MY GOD! THE DOOR IS UNLOCKED! YOU ARE FREE TO ENTER! WE DONT BITE!" I screamed. This damned person knocked again. "JESUS CHRIST DUDE COME IN!" I screamed again.

Knock. Knock. Knock.

"I'll get it," Courtney said standing up. She opened the door, and I think I almost died.

My mom and dad were standing in the doorway. My mom was glowering at us when she saw me. Her eyes went wide and her glare on me intensified.

Life why do you hate me so?

"Noah Sterecera. Outside. Now," She demanded. "Yes, Mom," I said softly.

I walked outside and my mom slammed the door.

Well cruel world, I would say it was nice knowing you, but that's a lie.

If I do die today though, someone better make sure that those eight messed up experiments that I call my siblings, don't lay one of their single infected fingers on my books.

Either way, I'm a dead man walking.
