Cheers were all we heard as we walked into the Rebel camp, Aaron by my side. Alan, bring the ham (for hands) he is, was just adoring the attention. Tay was on Alex's shoulder, smiling and waving. Tiny stood by Alan, looking tough (but not tough enough.)

General Paige stood at the end. "Lieutenant! Excellent work!" She looked at Aaron. I gently squeezed my boyfriend's hand. "I trust this is the Squire?"

"General Paige, this is Corporal Aaron Pauley of The Squire Ranks." I said in an authoritative voice. Paige nodded. Guards came forward and ripped Aaron from my grasp. "Paige! What is this?!" I demanded.

"Carter, he's a prisoner." She said plainly. "Don't tell me you've groaned attached!" She laughed.

"N-no ma'am." She nodded.

"Good. Lieutenant and company. Get rested." She then came to me. "Two hours. We need to talk."

(POV:Aaron.)

The guards dragged me away from Ember.

"Wait a second. You're a Pauley." The blonde haired, blue eyed one realized. "Noah! You catch that?"

"Kodie, what are you yapping about?" The one with very short, brown haired, sea green blue eyed boy.

"He's a Pauley! Our first kills were Pauleys! How about that?!" The one named Kodie yelled. I knew exactly who they were talking about. My parents had been killed by Rebels. These two, apparently.

"Any relation?" Noah asked me.

"Parents." I said through clenched teeth.

"So, what's up with you and Ember? Ya know, we actually use to be very good friends with her. Then, her parents were killed, and she cut almost everybody odd. Some people wouldn't give up on her, though." Kodie said.

"Wait, Ember's parents are dead?" I stopped walking.

"On base, too!" Noah added. "Em's the one who found them, too." He sighed. "Well, here we are. We're not on this job. General Paige has someone else in mind. You'll like her. She's a good friend of Ember!"

"Well, bye Aaron!" Kodie yelled as he drug Noah out.

"Bye!" Noah shouted. I walked into a cell. The large, heavy door slamming behind me.

There were more layers to Ember than I knew.
