Chapter 16: Chaos Emerald Properties

Shadow POV:

"Amy, what did Sonic tell you the night his engagement was announced?" I ask as I put the coffee to brew. 

My girlfriend visibly flinches as she turns around to look at me. She's still in her pajamas from last night with her hair slightly messy as she walks over toward me. Rose is thankfully feeling good still after the healing I gave her. "What do you mean?" 

I clear my throat and take both of her hands. "Yesterday. Before I came here...Sonic called me. He wanted to speak to me alone. However, it wasn't really possible since I guess he can't be alone anymore. Guards are always around him at all times, but he goes on his runs in the morning still. So I joined him. He told me a bunch of things..."

"What did he say?" Amy asks as she touches my face. "God, did he hurt you?" 

That question brings a smile to my face as I chuckle lightly. "Please. You really think that I can't take him in a fight?" 

That makes her laugh as she shakes her head. "No, you could totally kick his ass. Seriously though, what did he tell you?" 

I explained to her what Sonic told me. I tell her about Sally looking into the robot parts and confirming that it is a style of robot Eggman would create. I tell her about the royals checking on him in his prison cell.

"Then he asked how you were doing," I say, taking her hand. 

Rose looks at me nervously. "What did you tell him?" 

Anxiously, I respond. "I said that...you are happy. With me. With our current...situation. I hope it's true."

"It is true," She says as she wraps herself around me. "I'm very happy to be doing this with you, Shadow." 

"I asked him why he was even doing this. Why he's marrying Sally? He told me to ask you."  I raise an eyebrow at her. "Have you known why he's doing this the whole time?" 

"He uh...gave me a reason the night the engagement happened. I didn't say anything to you because I thought he was lying. But you know...I'm starting to think that maybe he wasn't." My girlfriend sighs as she pulls away and adjusts her hair. "Sonic's a Prince. Not in waiting, but actually a Prince." 

My mouth opens in shock as I stare at her in disbelief. I try to close my jaw, but it continues to hang open for a bit. "Excuse me?" 

Amy sighs as she pours the freshly brewed coffee into two mugs. She hands me one and motions for me to follow her toward her couch. 

She continues. "Sonic told me that he's the son of Queen Leora, arguably one of the best rulers Mobuis has ever had. I'm not sure if you know of her, but she ruled over our country before the Acorns. According to Sonic, she kept it hidden that she had a son and when she died, it was in her will that Sonic be raised by his Uncle Chuck." 

"...and what's the evidence for this?" I ask as I struggle to process any of this information. 

"This sounds like complete bullshit, right?" Rose says, anger beginning to pour off of her. "Is this seriously his reasoning for marrying Sally? So he can reclaim the throne? Take power away from the Acorns by marrying their daughter?" 

I sit quietly in thought as I sip my warm beverage. "Two persons..." 

"What?" 

"Sonic told me that his future in-laws are hiding something from him. That they're blackmailing him into doing this. Or at least that's what he insinuated," I shrug. "When I asked if it was something or someone, he said something about two persons...but then he cut himself off."
