Dean's p.o.v

Benny was able to effectively kick out Cas' family, the place now seeming empty and quiet. He'd hobbled himself downstairs when he woke this morning, making himself some coffee and limping to a balcony over looking the city. His body still hurt, and he imagined it would for another few days. He tried to sort his feelings out to the past few days' events, but he wasn't finding many emotions to pick out. He wondered if he was suppressing anything, but the more he sat there thinking, the more he thought he was pretty okay with it all.

He was tortured. The wounds on his body would fade to scars, and he was fine with that. Because Cas got to kill Jacob and he got to kill Eldon. They set things right in the world. Set things right in themselves. He thought his nightmares would have returned after this new ordeal, but they hadn't. He slept dreamless, peaceful nights so far. Really, he was hopeful that his trauma was mostly healed from this new experience .

Sam stepped out onto the balcony, looking over the city below that had a layer of fog covering the streets and the lower levels of all the tall buildings. He looked Dean over while taking a seat. "Nice view." Sam said quietly. Dean just nodded while sipping his coffee. "Now that I've got you alone, I wanted to say something." He said.

Dean set his mug down, "It better not be about how much you hate Cas, Sammy."

Sam just shook his head, "No, kinda the opposite now." Dean raised his brows to this. "He really cares about you, Dean. And I see that now. No one else was ready to move on the Styne's. His family wanted to wait on all of them to be there. He asked me to go just with him and a dozen men. I told him no and that he was a damned idiot for even considering it. So he just went by himself."

Dean smiled a little to this. A part of him disliked that Cas put himself in danger like that, but the majority of him was just proud of him. Proud of them, really.

"I feel ashamed now I didn't go. He had the balls to go and save you while I just sat around upset." Sam said, hanging his head a little.

Dean reached out and patted his knee, "If you would have gone with him, Jacob would have just killed you outright. He didn't hurt Cas because he wanted him. He had a purpose, and you didn't. You wouldn't have made it through the front door."

Sam just nodded. "You ever feel like since we were old enough to hold a gun that we've drifted a part from each other?"

Dean gave a small laugh to this, "I don't think that was by accident, Sammy. I think dad knew exactly what he was doing by distancing us so much." Silence stretched between them for a few moments.

"I just don't want to be like that anymore. I miss how close we were when we were younger." Sam replied.

"And we can be like that again, Sammy. We just need time, and now we have all of that. I might see if Cas has an empty apartment here for you. Or at least somewhere close by. We'll have our time, everything will be fine." Dean smiled over at his brother.

"You've just changed so much over the years, and I missed it all. You used to be such a hardass that did every single thing dad asked. Then you were just suddenly quiet and withdrawn for no reason I could find. Just a ghost floating around the country home. Then, with Castiel, you've changed a lot. And I think it's for the better. You really do seem happy. Not just with him, but with life." Sam studied Dean as if analyzing everything he was.

"I am." Dean said simply. Smiling and taking a sip from his coffee staring as the sun rose a little more off the horizon, dispelling the fog a little.

Castiel's p.o.v

Cas smiled. He'd heard a good bit of Dean and Sam's conversation. He backed away from the open balcony door and made his own coffee before approaching again. "I was wondering where you'd wandered off to."

Dean looked up at him with a beaming smile as he leaned on the balcony railing in front of him. Sammy stood and excused himself, Dean reached out, grabbing for the knot that held his robe together, pulling him closer to him, towards his lap.

Cas brought his hand up, providing light resistance to Dean tugging on him. "You're still too hurt." He said with amusement.

Dean rolled his eyes, "I don't want to fuck you Cas. I just want to hold you and enjoy this. Our first morning conscious together with our enemies dead. Just let me hold you and be happy."

Cas felt his chest tighten to the words. He knew Dean's body was riddled with injuries, but he couldn't deny his smile right now, how lighthearted he was acting. He allowed Dean to continue pulling on him until he was seated in his lap. Cas leaned back into Dean's chest, watching the sun fully make its appearance in the city. After sitting in silence just watching the sun creep up the sky, Cas spoke out into the space, "What would you think about moving?"

"What?" Dean asked, confused. "Why would we move?"

"I think I'm done with all of this." Cas said quietly.

"What do you mean?" Dean asked, tugging on Cas' body until he turned in his lap, facing him more now.

Cas shrugged, "I don't think this was ever what I wanted. I just became this because I needed to. To get my life back, and now that's done."

Dean looked him over, nodding a little in thought. "And where would new Cas want to live? And what would we do with ourselves?"

Cas settled in Dean's lap more looking him over. "Maybe outside of the city. Or hell in another state even, nowhere near a city. And I don't know. Go from there, I guess. Just be normal. Go out. Talk about things not crime related. You can have a garden again and cook for me so much I just get really fat. We can go out together, take vacations or some shit. Whatever normal people do."

Dean ran a hand down Cas' face, "And you think your family would be fine with that?"

Cas shrugged, "I don't care. I'll do desk work or something for them, keep their books and accounting shit."

"What about Sam? And Benny?" Dean asked.

"Sam and Benny are big boys, Dean. But if either of them wanted to stay close, I'd find them a place nearby wherever we land. But it's time for Benny to live for himself, too. He's been stuck in my shit for too many years.

Dean rubbed circles into Cas' hips with his hands. "If you want the normal life, then I want the normal life." He leaned forward, catching Cas' lips with his own, the kiss soft and slow for the moment. Dean pulled back, smiling at Cas, "So guess if we're gonna be like a suburban couple, I won't be your dog anymore, huh? I should lose this collar now." He said as he reached up for it.

Cas swatted his hand away, bringing his face close to Dean's, "I will always own you, Winchester. You take that off, and I'll have to teach you a lesson."

Dean smirked up at his words, "Yes, sir." He said with a laugh before pulling Cas back to his mouth.
