"How'd you go in your exam?" Meghan enthusiastically questions me at lunch.

I quickly come up with a cover up, "Piece of cake, 50 minutes is almost too much time." I lie.

She looks surprised but shrugs it off and continues eating her apple.

Kiely joins us at the table and sits next to me. Her hazel eyes wandered around the surroundings as if she is looking for someone. Her eyes pause momentarily on a spot then she quickly looks away and re-arranges her chestnut red hair. I knew who she was looking for.

"He's looking at you." I smirk at Kiely.

She looked at me as if she didn't know who I was talking about. "Who?" She questions blushing.

I laugh at her awkwardness and shake my head. Kiely had been crushing on Orlando Shmitt since grade 6.

"Just go talk to Orlando." Meghan adds.

Kiely blushes even more and bit her lip, "I can't, people cute like him don't talk to people ugly like me." She sighs.

I roll my eyes, Kiely was beautiful. She had chestnut red hair and gorgeous hazel green eyes. The fact she didn't notice her beauty made her even more attractive.

"Okay then you can either sit here and admire from a far, or-land-yo booty on his lap." I wiggle my eyebrows at her, proud of my creative pun. She hits me playfully on the shoulder and giggles, continuously looking to see if he is looking.

Lunch finishes and the last periods of the day roll by quickly.

I tell Meghan I am not in the mood for a run and I grab my bag from my locker and push past the stampede of kids to the back exit of the school.

I get to the path and slowly start walking home.

When I got to my street I cut across my paddocks to get to my house. I pull out my house key and jiggled it in the lock. I swing the door open and walked straight to the kitchen.

I grab a soft drink and a muesli bar then collapse onto the couch.

I pull out my phone and see that I have multiple messages and So I start to read them,

Mike: Coming to youth tonight? We can pick u up and u can drop us home.
Mum: Liv I will be late. Ask for a lift to youth and I will pick you + the boys up x mum
Mum: Also, how did your maths exam go?

I thumb back a reply to Mike and just put "OK" to my mum. I am not ready to tell her I failed.

I gulp the remainder of my soft drink and devour my muesli bar. I quickly walk to my room and pulled out some denim shorts and a tank-top.

I pull the shirt over my head and pull up the shorts and do up the button. I rush outside and put on my western boots. I usually ride English but my western boots are so much more comfortable.

I make my way to the paddock and call for Lilly. She comes trotting over to me obediently from behind and nudges me with her nose. I turn around and smile. I pull her head over my shoulder and hug her neck, burying my nose in her mane. She smelt of chalf and dirt, which most people find disgusting, but for me it relaxed me and made me feel safe.

Tears start flowing down my cheeks. Lilly nickers softly as I sob. After several minutes I pull myself away from her and wipe my eyes. I swiftly start walking to the shed where I grab her bridle.

I fling the reins over her head and push the bit into her mouth. I fasten all the buckles and start to head out.

Mum makes me where a helmet but since she isn't here I grab my black rodeo hat my dad gave me for my birthday last year.

I swiftly launch myself on to Lilly's bareback and shoved my phone in my back pocket. Lilly tenses as I mount her then quickly relaxes. I kick her into a fast trot and head to the gate.

I struggle to open and shut the gate whilst aboard Lilly but I do manage. We cross the road into a massive field with tall grass that leads off to some trails in the bush.

As we enter the field I slow Lilly to a walk and pull out my phone. I put my playlist on shuffle and turn the volume fully up. I shove it back in my pocket and abruptly kick Lilly.

She knows what this means.

Lilly explodes into a fast gallop across the field. I lean forward and grab my hat with one hand, so that it doesn't fly off. I feel the breeze tangling my hair and whipping my face. Lilly keeps a steady gallop for about 2 minutes then slows to a relaxed canter. I look back and I can barely see my house anymore.

I pat Lilly softly and she slows to a walk. I turn her around to face the house. "When running from reality, it sure does help to have a fast horse." I say through a panting breath, dropping my head I turn her around and continue on.
