The school bell rings signifying the end of my second period of Science for the day and the start of lunch. I close my notebook and start to pack away my stationary which is sprawled across the desk.
When I get to my locker, Mike is sat down cross legged in front of it twiddling his thumbs and looking around.
"And who may you be?" I tease him as I walk up to my locker and stand in front of him.
"Liv we are hanging out this break chuck your books away and come with me to the tuck shop." Mike informs me on arrival.
I roll my eyes and shove him over and unlock my locker. I put my books away and grab out a sandwich.
As we start walking up to the tuck shop, Mike grabs my sandwich and throws it in the bin, dusting his hands off.
"Hey! That was my only lunch Mike!" I yell punching him on the arm and folding my arms across my chest.
Mike turns to me and makes a pouty face.
"Aw shame, well maybe I will buy something for the grumpy baby at the tuck shop." He baby talks me grabbing my hand and pulling me to the tuck shop like a child.
As we arrive at the tuck shop I don't resist when Mike returns back from the window with two chicken burgers in his hand and offers one to me.
"Shove that in ya gob." Mike adds as we take a seat against the brick walls and sit cross legged side by side.
We sit in silence for a few minutes while we devour our chicken burgers and watch people walk by.
"How are you and your mum going planning the funeral?" Mike asks cautiously after putting the last bite of burger in his mouth.
I chew slower as I think of a way to change the subject. I had decided that the best way to get over my dad was to not think of him at all.
"It's easy the funeral ladies are actually organising the whole ceremony, all mum and I have to do is figure out who is going to say what. You know what I gotta go to the toilets but don't wait up for me okay?" I say standing up to leave.
"Since when do you use the school toilets?" Mike ask suspiciously.
"Nature calls!" I exclaim rushing off leaving him sitting against the wall alone.
As soon as I am out of sight I pull out my phone and scroll through to Dylan's contact.
I call and wait for him to pick up.
After about 5 rings Dylan answers.
"Hello?" Dylan answers. The sound of his voice makes my heart beat faster.
"Dylan it's Liv, can you come pick me up from school?" I blurt out as soon as I hear his voice.
"Why are you ok?" He asks more concerned.
"Yea I am fine I just really want to leave." I sigh.
There's a pause at the other end.
"I am at school as well I can't skip? You shouldn't skip either." He answers finally.
"Okay." I breath heavily.
"I can come pick you up after school? I finish at 2:30 today." Dylan gleams hopefully.
Perfect I think to myself. "I finish at 3:15 do you mind picking me up near the kiss and drop zone?" I ask hopefully.
"Sure, I gotta go see ya later." And with that he hangs up.
I smile and set off to find my friends.
-------
The bell rings and I grab my things and dash for the door. I arrive at my locker and pile my books in and yank my bag out practically skipping up to the kiss and drop zone.
