A/N

Hii!

As I wrote in the last chapter, there has been interest in Agathokakological again, as well as when I'm updating the story.

I have decided to update chapters at least twice a month.

The next chapter should be released around the start of August.

First Year

Chapter Eleven

ARIADNE ARRIVED ON THE SECOND-FLOOR AND TURNED TO THE GARGOYLE CORRIDOR. At the end of the corridor, a sapient gargoyle sat there, guarding the entrance to the headmaster's office.

She had been summoned by the headmaster to come after classes, but wasn't sure if it was for the good or the bad. Maybe it had something to do with her ability to block her mind or something like that - she never got an explanation.

She stopped in front of the gargoyle and took the piece of parchment out of her satchel with Sugar Quill inscribed on it.

''Sugar Quill?'' she questioned, wondering what it meant. Suddenly, the gargoyle began to rotate, and a circular staircase could be seen.

She made her way up and entered the headmaster's office. It was a large circular room with a lot of windows and many portraits of people, Ariadne didn't know who they were.

There were a lot of funny noises and many silver instruments that stood on spindle-legged tables. There was also an enormous, claw-footed desk and, sitting on a shelf behind it, a shabby hat, which Ariadne recognized as the Sorting Hat.

Besides the table, Ariadne noticed a breathtaking red bird standing on its perch, looking at her with bright interest. Ariadne neared the bird, who still looked at her and then let out a soul-touching song. The song began to calm her down from Ron's big mouth, and she didn't feel so tense anymore. Ariadne smiled and petted the crook of the red bird's neck.

''He seems to have taken a liking to you. Phoenix, majestic creatures.'' Ariadne jumped at the sudden voice.

The headmaster walked towards Ariadne and the Phoenix. ''Is he yours, sir? What's his name?''

''Fawkes.'' His blue eyes twinkled. Ariadne turned around, greeted the phoenix, and continued to pet him.

''Please take a seat, Miss Soleil.'' he gestured to a chair. He was smiling as she sat down in the chair opposite of him. Then she felt a sudden pang in her head, yet again and more intense than before, which made her brows furrow, until it stopped shortly after.

''I'm sure you are curious about why I have called you?'' he asked, analyzing her reaction over his half-moon spectacles.

''I suppose.'' she paused shortly. ''It has something to do with the... ability I have over my mind.''

''Indeed. Not everyone is capable of doing it, I must add,'' the professor said. ''Before I explain what is happening, you should know that only the professors are aware of it. It is nothing to be feared, don't worry. And whether you discover it to others is entirely your choice.''

''Yes, professor.'' Ariadne said. It would be a lie if she said that she wasn't at least a little worried herself.

'I shall try to explain it in simple terms, but seeing as you are a very clever student, it might not be as necessary as I thought.'' he began. ''You have a natural affinity for what is called Occlumency, a type of magic to close one's mind against those who want to infiltrate it. Which means you're an Occlumens.'' Ariadne was taken aback by what he said.
