part iii: breaking dawn

The following morning was slow and languid for the couple like the first rays of dawn that broke through from beyond the horizon. Lucia didn't have anything planned for today, and she wanted to spend it with Paul, who would be home late that evening since he had patrol. The silence that encompassed the home was broken by their idle chatter and the soft crooning that emitted from the radio in the kitchen.

Paul held her in his arms, careful not to make any sharp movements as she still bore a slight pain from their activities the previous evening. Frank Sinatra's familiar voice played softly as they danced around the kitchen, bodies pressed close together, their movements slow and romantic. She could feel his warmth tumbling off of him and she bathed in it, sinking further into his embrace when he drew her closer.

The grin on Lucia's face took Paul's breath away each time he saw it and it was no different this time around. It was hard to explain exactly how Lucia made him feel. All he could say was that he was certain he'd never felt it before. This unconditional love she had for him was unbearable at times in the best way possible.

Lucia rested her head against his chest, feeling Paul press a kiss to her hair before resting his cheek on her head. He made no effort to break the moment or take it further than it was, enjoying the feeling of her being in his arms and his heart feeling at home. Lucia felt cared for, safe. She always did when she was with him.

"Have you heard from Jacob lately?" Lucia questioned, her tone soft so as not to break the moment. If she was being honest, she could've fallen asleep right here but she knew Paul would forget to take the cookies out of the oven if she did.

"Thinking of another man while I'm holding you, Lou? I might just get jealous," Paul teased, his hand running up the length of her back in a soothing manner as they swayed back and further. It's as if he was trying to get her to sleep.

Lucia rolled her eyes and pulled back from his chest, looking up into his eyes that were so easy for her to get lost in. Paul quirked a brow at her, raising a hand to caress her cheek. "I'm just worried, you know."

"I know." Paul nodded in understanding as they stopped swaying. "He's okay, all things considered. He hasn't tried reaching out to Bella at all and hasn't really thought much of her, surprisingly. She's stopped by on multiple occasions though. You'd think she was in love with Jake with how adamant she is not all to him."

Lucia hums at that, knowing that there was a part of Bella that did love Jacob. Lucia's hands slid up Paul's chest and circled his neck, the girl standing on her tiptoes to reach his height. Paul's hands slid around her waist as she looked at him thoughtfully, the man admiring her as he always did.

"It's hard to believe that now with her getting married to Edward." Paul's brows raised though he didn't seem the least bit surprised by the revelation. "I think that's one of the reasons why Jacob's finally letting her go. She's finally going through with becoming... that."

"It comes with falling in love with one of them I suppose," Paul replied.

Lucia smirked at him, playing with the hair at the nape of his neck. "Does that mean I'm going to become a werewolf, too?"

"No." Paul rolled his eyes, flicking her nose causing her to pout. "And we're shifters, not werewolves. Shifters. "

".... right," Lucia drawled out, causing Paul to growl at her playfully and nuzzle her neck, gently nipping her skin and causing her to giggle. She attempted to wiggle out of his hold but he pulled her closer, revelling in her laughter.
