Life went on, not too different from before.
They worked at the bar, too pleased to have their friends nearby more often than before.
It had turned out that, after Xie Lian's marriage, and against his parents' better judgement, some well-hidden clause in some dead relative's Last Will And Testament had been unlocked, and he inherited a handsome sum of unexpected money, which basically should have been an occasion for celebration, but – alas! – it rather unlocked some strife.
- You don't need to go to work now, my San Lang! Let's stay in bed all day, all night! – the Alpha would purr enticingly.
Drunk on his pheromones, Hua Cheng would feel dizzy with happiness, but still manage to object:
- GeGe, we really... can't do that... - he would lisp weakly.
The Alpha would pout, not too pleased with his lover opposing him, and this would usually lead to the Beta's profuse begging, and tons over tons of puppy eyes, and the plea for him to understand.
- I most definitely don't understand! - Xie Lian would huff. – Why won't you let me take care of you?! I am your husband now!
- And I am yours... - Hua Cheng would implore. – GeGe, please... It's... important to me!
- And it's important to me that you take better care of yourself! Why the night shifts still? Why work yourself to death for so little money??? Why???
- Alpha, please... - the Beta would whimper, too often on his knees, hoping to win this argument that he didn't want to turn into a fight.
- Just... Let me take care of you too, GeGe... Please...
The Alpha puffed, unhappy about this, but still allowed his lover to have his way. Hua Cheng tried his best to express his gratitude in all their love-making, always.

Naturally, Feng Xin always had huge fun with that kind of pointless and hilarious bickering. He always thought that his fights with his own Omega were fundamental, crucial, catastrophic even, important, and he hated the deplorable Beta's guts for laughing at them, whenever they fought at the bar.
But observing his best friend's drama was highly amusing to him, and he would often exclaim:
- Damn! It was worth coming in to work today just to see that dumbass beg on his knees in front of Dianxia! HA!
Mu Qing was just biting his lips, and doing his best to stay out of it all. He had his own worries, and just craved for everyone to be getting along, with zero drama – preferably.
One more year in his life was rolling over, and, as he was maturing now, some deeper, protective instincts started awaking too. He didn't know for sure, but he felt - those were motherly instincts.
Yes, he felt it. Especially during his last heat. That fierce instinct to literally steal a part of his Alpha, and bury it deep inside himself, in a soft, safe, warm place, where it could grow, and thrive, and sprout, and blossom. Grow fully, and become a treasure.
They both relaxed into their relationship, and slowly got used to each other more, even in the aspects of their sex, and it was a cozy, calm life, but still – he constantly felt this gaping emptiness inside. It seemed, he wasn't a good thief.

One day, during his current pre-heat, he curled inside Feng Xin's arms, as they were taking a bath on a lazy afternoon, and he felt ugly, and fat, and bloated, but still empty. It was an awful feeling.
