Mu Qing's brain switched off. The despair drowned him so thoroughly that he was all pure instinct now.

An Omega, whose brain believed it was in such a great distress, expulsed chemicals that dictated:

- Call for help.

- Hide.

- Seek protection.

- Who's the strongest? Whose chances of survival are the best?

Of course, there was no logic in all of it. The logical thing for Mu Qing to do was to seek out his mate. Yet, he rushed into Xie Lian's confusedly open arms, and curled there, whimpering. Because, no matter how tall and large Feng Xin was, the scent did not lie.

Dianxia was still the strongest Alpha there.

He cowered in his best friend's warm embrace, expecting to hear a mighty roar, any moment now. He even expected the two Alphas to get into a fight – a very physical fight this time!!! – and it intensified his anxiety and fear. But once his mate's voice hovered over his head, and Feng Xin's scent got nearer, he only heard the super worried, and super frustrated:

"Are you OK, babe? Your scent is so... Mu Qing? Please..."

Mu Qing cocked his head up, coming out of Xie Lian's warm sweater a bit, and now looked up, gaping, snotty and teary-eyed.

Mouth truly a-gape, he now watched as Hua Cheng of all people just took Feng Xin to the side, and helped him get into a seat next to himself, at the counter.

- Eh?

He blinked tears away and now turned to the only Alpha remaining in his grip – for a good explanation. Because he most definitely had questions.

***

Everything happened really, really, really quickly, and Xie Lian mostly reacted on instinct. True, it wasn't the first time Mu Qing was sobbing on his shoulder, only, in the past, it had been about his unrequited love. Today – he wasn't so sure what all the drama was about.

But Omegas were famous for being drama queens, especially in their pre-heat days, and he knew that once in a while there would be a week of quiet hell for everyone around, as both Mu Qing and Feng Xin stubbornly refused to take those days off work, whenever they came. It was a week of scandalous fighting, mostly – over small, mundane things, and a lot of sulking, which was inevitably followed by noisy and flamboyant making-up.

However, the little Omega's scent had never been so sharp and desperate before, and he was initially too stunned to even speak – he was not used to such extreme Omega scents. His San Lang usually smelled like fine smoke and alcohol and delicious food and spices, and all the best things in life, so his nose was accustomed to it rather. He hugged Mu Qing with a quiet "Huuughnnngh!", again surprised at how strong the silly Omega actually was.

He had no time to follow the interaction between his puppy and Feng Xin, because his eyes rather travelled to the other Omega in the room, to Feng Xin's father, because quite a lot of worry was coming to him from that direction as well, and he just smiled and waved, truly wishing everyone would just calm down.

But then he felt two burning eyes on himself and looked down, just to see Mu Qing, looking like a small kid, his eyes – begging for something he didn't know how to read.

He then looked at the counter – Hua Cheng was focused on saying something to Feng Xin, who smelled like demolition, but at least that front seemed to be peaceful, for now.

His eyes focused at the warm and sniffling problem at hand, and so he cooed now:

- A-Qing? Are you alright?

The whole situation had developed so weirdly that Mu Qing was speechless. He blinked, confused, and slowly starting to realize that he was being hugged by the wrong Alpha. His attention was then diverted to the left, as Feng Xin's father had left his cozy seat in the corner, and was now walking up to them, frowning.

- What's going on here? – the Omega asked, perhaps a bit too loudly.

Well, old habits die hard, and, as a teacher, he now folded his arms in front of his chest, staring at the odd pair sternly.

Both Mu Qing and Xie Lian gaped now, staring back at him, still a little dizzy.
