In the last couple of months it had been so very typical that Mu Qing and Feng Xin went to work together that Xie Lian changed the working hours. There (regrettably) rarely were any customers after midnight away.
The couple had agreed to stay employed there, even though the Omega's parents insisted that he stayed home more, and took care of his health and his future offspring, ultimately, but the teen disagreed strongly, and after loud arguments, and some serious smirking on the part of Feng Xin, who would constantly mock them with "Stupid pure-bloods!", things settled.
Well, kind of. My Qing's mother swore that once the first grandchild arrived, she would do the impossible to fix this.
So, it was early in the afternoon, and the Alpha silently prayed in his mind that the damned Beta would not be there today. His Papa was going to be quite enough, even – a handful – so he didn't really need the disgusting expression of sheer gladness on Hua Cheng's ugly face.
His arm was tightly wrapped around the Omega's waist as they walked the last stretch from the bus stop to the bar, and he was lazily wondering whether he had told his Papa to come at 3 or at 4p.m. But it didn't really matter. His life now rotated around Mu Qing's heats/pre-heats, and his only care was his mate.
This was what he wanted to talk about today too. He could have done it on the phone, surely, but the nosy Omega was most definitely going to eavesdrop on the whole thing, and he hated for Mu Qing to stress over this even more.
His gut, his deepest Alpha instinct, was telling him that his husband could not conceive not because of anything biologically wrong, but rather because of everybody's (and his own!) high expectations.
It was just mere anxiety.
***
Walking on the inner side of the side-walk, Mu Qing was sweating. He instinctively felt that his husband was in a pensive mood, and did his best to keep quiet. Even without the help of the calendar, he could clearly feel his heat approaching. His first heat had been a mess, and so had the second. But after that things got to be more regular. Roughly one week of pre-heat, with all its crazy cravings and crazier mood swings, and then three-four days of heat that they stayed home for. His Alpha's rut had not yet aligned with his own cycles, but they were getting there, and, as they were fated, he had zero doubts that it would be so, for the rest of their lives. His heat inevitably triggered Feng Xin's rut, maybe not straight away, but gradually. The bouncer never missed a chance to assure him that he smelled like the best thing on the planet, and he was literally melting every single time.
Mu Qing was melting right now too, because his mate's strong arm was wrapped around him, quite possessively, and he was blushing and sweating, a little excited, and a little embarrassed, even though no one was really paying attention to them. He did his best to control himself, but it was quite inevitable – his pheromones were just bound to explode, sooner or later.
- Mmmm?
They stopped in front of the bar, and the Alpha just hummed, immediately alarmed to the change in scent, now leaning a little down to take a better look at his Omega.
- Are you OK, puppy? – he blinked, a little confused.
The smell was inviting, and alluring, and it generally meant "Come to bed! Be with me!"
Mu Qing bit his lips, already sorry, lowering his gaze. Dammit, that moron had been right! He had to learn how to control himself better!
- All's fine, Alpha. – he assured shyly.
