Today's shift was quiet.
And not just clients-wise. The bartender and the bouncer were far too quiet too.
Feng Xin was sitting on the side of the counter, keeping a judgmental eye out, but only occasionally. He was on his phone, clicking on stuff, typing stuff down too. From time to time he would nervously cast a look behind his shoulder, at the front door, at the windows of the bar, frowning.
His papa had told him rain was coming on, but he doubted it. The weather forecast online said "cloudy" for the upcoming week. He only saw a sunny day, with some occasional fluff-clouds through the window. He hated storms. He hated them.
But his papa tended to be right. About an annoyingly huge percentage of the things in the world. Feng Xin used to hate that too, a lot, but lately he wasn't so sure any more. Today, it was as if someone had drawn the curtains to a scene which he had been impatient to see, for which he had been craving to be finally revealed to him. He had been shaken awake with some realization of his own, and also – he had been hit with some comfort, which his father dumped on him most probably subconsciously. Hard as their situation was, it at least sounded like the right thing to do, unlike his friend's predicament.
Today, Hua Cheng had been blissfully drunk, and hadn't quite understood his pa's words, but he could swear on anything that Xie Lian did. He had smelled the slight whiff of concern on him, and he trusted his nose implicitly. What his father had said had sounded... ominous.
Engulfed in his thoughts, he went back in time, he remembered just how badly those two morons had been pining after one another when separated. As much as he hated the accursed Betas, he did not doubt that his boss loved that stinker dearly, and that the ugly motherfucker was more than smitten with the Xie Lian, despite his riches, and despite his non-special looks and a-typical character. The young Prince was far too meek to be an Alpha, far too short, too friendly, too caring, too kind. Not at all aggressive.
In truth, Xie Lian looked and sounded, and acted like... like...
Feng Xin gasped.
- Like a crappy Beta... - he grumbled under his breath quietly.
It was enough for Mu Qing, though – he turned around immediately, to stare at him. His husband had barely spoken today, and it was...
If it had been a normal pre-heat, Mu Qing would most probably been irritable and explosive. He probably would have yelled at his Alpha for chatting with other people and not with him, for being on his phone way too much – and not with him!!!, for not paying attention to him, and also possibly – for having a fucking affair on the side, and ignoring him!!!
But today, all of this sounded so ridiculous and unimportant that he just dismissed it. He secretly stalked his lover's ever movement, and wondered, in his mind, what he was so deep in thought about. Was it... because of what his Papa had told them? Or... was he planning the next days for them? His heat?
He felt warm inside, and blushed, choosing to believe it was the latter.
And when he finally overheard his voice, in spite of the background music and the quiet murmur in the bar, he walked the small distance between them, approaching him shyly, biting his lips.
- Mmmm?
The Alpha looked up from his phone – the only scent in the bar he had been following all the time now intensified and he knew, without needing to see. He knew who it was.
- Alpha?
- What is it, puppy? Do you need a break?
Mu Qing just shook his head. It was a slow day at work, he didn't need to rest. He wasn't tired, nor hungry. He...
Feng Xin observed his body language carefully, as the scent did not change. Flushed cheeks, eyes staring at the ground... shy and a-blush, biting his plump lips to make them plumper... that body heat that was coming off, in soft waves of warmth and fragrant Omega scent...
The Alpha knew. The boy didn't need to beg for it.
They were married.
Feng Xin let his phone drop on the counter top, and turned his whole body to face his pretty husband. He let his feet touch the ground, and opened his legs, opening his arms too, letting the Omega rush and get into his embrace again, wedging himself close to his open body, close to his own body heat.
Mu Qing let out a small whimper, and then – a sigh of relief. It was so good to be here. It was nice and safe here. And calm. It was where he belonged.
- Alpha... Do you love me, Alpha? – he murmured.
Feng Xin locked his arms around the fragile frame and let the Omega snuggle.
- Silly pup... - he mumbled now. – Don't you know it already?
Mu Qing looked up, and the sadness still lingered on his face. The Alpha's heart was breaking.
- You love me... as I am? Even if I'm not... enough? For you?
Mu Qing's voice was cracking. He was shivering inside the warm hug.
Feng Xin clenched his teeth. Those words were knives in his...
And then it hit him! The best argument in the world! How hadn't he come up with this stupid, useless shit earlier?!?
- Well, wife... - he now grunted, sounding truly condescending for some reason, and feeling the Omega immediately tense up, due to some leftover indignation at the "wife" thing.
- Well, little wife... I'm sure you'll remember your mom's words. We are compatible at 99.9% per cent! – he mocked. – You might not feel you're enough... coz ughh Omegas be forever fussy... But I'd say, your skinny ass is perfect for me! I'd say this is what 99.9 of anything means! Ha!
