After a few hours of raiding stores and killing walkers, Daryl and Beth arrived back at the prison. The large group of walkers that were pilled at the fence were no longer there, or at least it died down a little. Everything was calm and quite apart from the moaning walkers that could barely be heard from where Daryl had parked the car. Getting out of the car, the man noticed that Rick wasn't back with Michonne or Glenn. The car was missing, but he didn't put much thought into it.
Maggie and Carl came running up to the two, sisters engulfing each other; and Carl tilting his hat at Daryl. The girls had small talk while the two 'men' didn't speak to each other; they just listened in on the conversations around them.
"How's daddy?" Beth asked, her eyes drifting away from her sister. Maggie smiled and shifted slightly.
"He's good. Awake, but still seems a little shaken. Carol is in his cell with Judith, she's gonna keep an eye on him. Are you okay?"
"I'm fine." The younger girl said, looking over at Daryl who wasn't looking at her at all. He had a bag of medication and another bag that was filled with miscellaneous items that he had picked. "We got the stuff for daddy. And some other things." She said, pointing to the bag full of many medicines. Maggie nodded and walked over to Daryl, smiling at him.
"May I?" She asked, reaching her hand out. Daryl nodded, handing her the bag. Her eyes scanned all over, front and back of the bag; reading the labels. Everything that they could need, and more. "Thank you." Maggie said, turning to look at Beth. "I'm gonna go in daddies cell, just gonna ask him about this stuff, find out what he needs."
The girl nodded and watched her older sister walk away and back into the prison. She walked over to Daryl and Carl and smiled down at the younger boy but he just turned and walked back over to the gates waiting for her father.
"I'm glad we got the medicine. I hope my daddy can tell Maggie what he needs.. I just hope he gets better." She said, crossing her arms and leaned against the car hood just the the older man beside her.
"Me too." Daryl mumbled, squinting his eyes to hopefully keep the sun out. He looked around and sighed, taking his crossbow off his shoulder and setting it on the hood of the car. Setting the bag of items on the hood beside his crossbow, the gates opened once again.
Rick's car pulled in the driveway like entrance and made its way beside the car Daryl and Beth arrived in. Once he got out, Michonne and Glenn came out after him asking questions such as, 'Is Hershel okay? When did you two get back? Are you both okay? Did anything happen? Is Maggie okay?"
"Hershel is awake, from what Maggie said. We got back just a few minutes before you did, we are fine. Nothin' happened, and yes she's fine." Daryl said looking up at Rick and Glenn. The Korean nodded and muttered a thank you before taking off inside after his fiance, as Michonne walked down to Carl to give him some things. Rick pulled out a suit case and set it on the ground, unzipping it and pulling some things out.
"Michonne and Glenn helped me get some IV bags and some injection needles. We got quite a few of them for the future, just in case. We also got some medication and other things from the hospital up the road." Rick said, putting everything back and zipping the bag shut once again. He stood back up and looked at Beth who had a straight, unemotional face. He seemed to take notice so he smiled at the girl, opening his mouth to speak. "We're goin' to get Hershel better, okay?"
Beth stepped forward, Daryl looking up and watching her just in case she did something stupid. She nodded, and smiled slightly. "I believe you." She said, pressing her lips to Rick's cheek.
Daryl furrowed his brows and he had a feeling of pain grow in his chest. He turned and grabbed his crossbow and the bag he got from earlier and stormed back into the prison. Everyone who tried to talk to him, was just ignored and highly confused. They watched him go upstairs and into his cell, everyone turned to look at each other as they heard Daryl slam his door shut.
He threw his crossbow on the top bunk which was the bunk he put all his things on. Then he tipped the black bag over on his bed and watched all the things he picked up pile out. Staring at everything, he scanned his eyes over the diary he picked up for Beth when she wasn't looking. The rage he felt deep within, overpowered him which led him to picking it up and throwing it across the small cell. He continued to pick things up and throw them, until he got to the one and only thing that was left on the bed.
Tears were running down his face by now, he picked up the item laying on his bed and looked at it for a couple of minutes. Daryl sighed and wiped his tears with his free hand, laying down on his bed and turning the item in his fingers, the thought of Beth kissing on some other guy lodged in his brain.
After a couple of hours, the only light in Daryl's room was the moonlight shining through the window. It was dark, but he could still see everything on the floor; and the item he had earlier was still faltering through his fingers when his door opened.
A familiar face showed up in his room as the door opened, and in she came. She looked at the ground and noticed everything was a mess. Arrows on the ground, books, pictures and picture frames along with other items; which led her to confusion.
Beth stepped over all of the items on the ground and sat down on the side of Daryl's bed. She notticed that he didn't even look up at her which caused her to sigh. He was playing with something in his hand, but she couldn't tell what so she just let it go.
"Daddy is doin' fine." She said, which got no answer. "The medicine we got really helped him." Still no answer. "He wanted me to thank you since you weren't in the room. He was gonna do it face to face, but like I said, you weren't there." Beth waited a few seconds to see if Daryl would answer, but he didn't. Which frustrated her deeply.
So she stood up and turned towards the man who was still fumbling with something in his hands. "What the hell is your problem?" She spat, causing him to look up at her for a split second. Hope filled her stomach, but as soon as he looked back at his hands, she got pissed off all over again.
"Is this some kind of game to you?"
"To me?" Daryl asked, sitting up and throwing the item behind him. Beth nodded and continued to speak in a harsh tone.
"Ever since you kissed me, things have been goin' to shit. You know, I actually thought that you cared. But obviously you don't so screw you!" She screamed, about to walk out.
Daryl stood up and started to walk towards the girl which startled her. She turned around and watched him get closer to her, but he stopped about a few inches away from her.
"You know what? What the hell is YOUR problem?" His voice was shaking and his eyes welled with tears. He pointed at Beth, and she stepped back some. "You can't just go around and kiss me then go and kiss other guys, it's not how things work around here. You lose two boyfriends and you can't even shed a tear. Then you go and lead me on then kiss Rick right in front of me! If it was me you would go ape shit."
"I kissed his cheek, it was my way of sayin' thank you!"
"Why didn't you just say thank you like a damn normal person?" Daryl questioned, his voice straining from yelling so loud. By now Rick, Maggie, Glenn and Carol were standing behind Beth, which the two didn't even notice.
The girl was silent which caused Daryl to scoff and turn around, his thoughts bouncing all over the place. He couldn't get his mind right, and he sure as hell couldn't tell what to do.
"If I didn't care then I wouldn't be yellin' right now. I wouldn't have came up here in this shitty cell and trashed it. I wouldn't have came in here and cried my god damn eyes out." He stayed staring at the wall, looking down. The man thought he was done crying, but obviously he was wrong. The tears came flooding down his face, he whimpered softly causing everyone to just look at each other.
Beth stepped forward and put her hand on Daryl's shoulder, which he didn't like. He pulled away from her touch and composed himself, staying put where he was. The girl felt extremely bad but the only thing she knew to do was apologize.
"I'm sorry.." She said, her voice cracking. Daryl turned and looked at her, rage still burning inside of him. Those words didn't mean anything to him right now, because he didn't believe that she was.
"You can say sorry a million times, say that it was just your way of saying thank you as much as you want, say whatever you want, whenever you want. But if you're not going to prove that the things you say are true, then don't say anything at all. Because if you can't show it, your words don't mean a thing."
And with that, he pushed passed Beth and everyone who was standing at the door. Rick called his name out, but Daryl kept walking. He pulled his gun out of his pocket, checked how many bullets there were and walked out of the prison; leading Rick to start worrying. But Daryl didn't care, he just wanted out of this hell hole.
